The SOLSC Challenge is at the Two Writing Teachers blog hosted by Ruth and Stacey - This is the tenth day and if you've made it this far, you're beginning to create a great habit--writing every day!
I have carried around an old Newsweek essay that I've shared both with colleagues and students. I thought you'd enjoy the thoughts that this writer shares about appreciation. You can find it here.
Auggie, from that marvelous new book Wonder, by R.J. Palacio says: “I think there should be a rule that everyone in the world should get a standing ovation at least once in their lives.”
This is my standing ovation for all the slicers in this challenge. Happy Saturday and Happy Writing! Thank you for all my support too!

21 to go!
Happy saturday
Isn't it fun!
DeleteI am waiting for my copy of Wonder to arrive in the mail. I can't wait to find your quote in there. It feels so good to be a consistent writer again...it takes time but I appreciate those little moments so much more. A standing ovation to you too. Thank you for all of the wonderful comments. They just make my day.
ReplyDeleteThanks Elizabeth, I love hearing from you too. Hope you like the book!
DeleteLinda, we all need some psychological stroking from time to time. As you offer your ovation to your fellow slicers, I take this opportunity to acknowledge you and your efforts, both as a fellow slicer and as a writer and educator whose feedback is most appreciated. More power to you...
ReplyDeleteAlan
Thank you Alan, it's quite a wonderful thing this writing (& the teaching too of course). I'm glad to get to know you better too through your work.
DeleteHappy Saturday the 10th! And thank YOU for all the support you have given me over the past year and 10 days!
ReplyDeleteSame here, Donna. I feel like we're old friends! Looking forward to more!
DeleteYour words in the comments have been louder than clapping. Thank you so much for caring.
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome, Terje. It's amazing how different people are all coming together to honor each other's work. I enjoy it very much.
DeleteLinda,
ReplyDeleteI just finished Wonder last night and I loved it!!! That quote also resonated with me. Thanks for the standing ovation. I am proud of all of us slicers, too! Last year I tried the challenge, but only wrote 4 out of 31 days. I haven't missed a day yet, so I'm pretty proud of myself. It's sometimes a struggle, but completely worth it. Thanks for your encouragement and comments! :)
I'm so excited you liked it too. It is a wonderful story. And congrats on continuing on this time-woo hoo, Jennifer!
DeleteWay to use that great quote from Augustus. That line stood out for me, too, and I agree: this year's slice has been something incredible. It's like someone opened the spigot for writers, and now, we are connecting into a larger writing community.
ReplyDeleteKevin
It is amazing that everyone continues to write wonderful words. This is not an easy thing amidst work and kids and life itself. Really exciting! Thanks Kevin!
DeleteWhat a lovely way to celebrate and encourage all of us - March Challenge Slicers the world over. I don't know how you do it, Linda - you reach out to so many of us every day. But I am always glad to hear the warmth and genuine interest in your comments. Here's to the next 21 days!
ReplyDeleteAnd I continue to be so happy every day to read what you have to say Tara. Thank you!
DeleteLast night I told my husband excitedly this "Slice of Life" part of my life. I told him about you and others...and about the cheering I "heard" when people responded to my posts....and how I NEVER, ever even thought about that as a need or purpose...... He looked at me as if I were a little off or perhaps had a little too much wine when I said, "There are people out there who think like me!"
ReplyDeleteIt's difficult to explain to anyone else unless they've done it. You have to walk in the shoes!
DeleteAnita I like your comment. I can picture your husband's expression.
DeleteYes, we have made it to day 10. I hope you have a wonderful Saturday!
ReplyDeleteI stand and clap for you as well.
Thank you very much. My son & family who moved away last year came in last night for a visit. I will definitely have a lovely Saturday. Same to you!
DeleteSlice 10...Nooooo! We are moving too fast but applause, applause! Great article Linda and quote from our bud Auggie
ReplyDeleteThanks much! It is zipping by.
DeleteWhat a great way to stop and appreciate all of us! I appreciate all of your comments each day, too!
ReplyDeleteThanks Maria. Wish I had more time to read everyone's!
DeleteSlice 10. Has a nice ring to it, doesn't it? I haven't read Wonder, yet, but I agree with Auggie says about standing ovations. Sometimes you have to just start the clapping yourself and hope everyone catches on, right? I'm glad we're on this journey together, Linda.
ReplyDeleteMe, too, how great it is to have a little connection every day!
DeleteThank you, Linda, for your applause. Here's to you for faithfully and purposely reading all our posts. Thank you for copying my poems--I'm honored.
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome; they are beautiful!
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteThank you! For this post for all of us and for your own insightful writing and for your beautiful spirit as well. Thank YOU!
ReplyDeleteYou're so welcome. It's been lots of fun to meet new people like you, too.
DeleteLinda,
ReplyDeleteYour warmth and wisdom has lifted me up many times over this past year. Your generosity has been a gift I have savored. Thank you.
It has been a delight to share our stories, Ruth. Here's to another of the serious & the silly!
DeleteOne of my favorite parts of WONDER is Auggie's comment about standing ovations and then also a later part in the book related to that. Comments are like a standing ovation at times - don't you think? I always write my slice in my own head, of course. When I see others actually think it resonated with them I'm surprised and thrilled. Great post.
ReplyDeleteI love your idea about comments, Katherine. They are like a verbal clapping! Thanks!
DeleteBravo! Thanks! I needed that! My post today is all about how I've realized this writing everyday thing isn't easy...and that I have to be okay with not being able to write something great and profound or to write something easily everyday. What an experience!
ReplyDeleteI'll try to read your post later, Jen. Sounds thought-provoking! I have company all weekend & it isn't going to be easy to sneak in a 'read' once in a while.
DeleteAfter reading this I can imagine us all standing in a stadium applauding each other in gratitude. This is a great place that you have helped to make safe and welcoming with your daily effort and comments for so many. Your dedication is so inspiring and heartwarming. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteYour are very welcome Bets. I love your image. Clap, clap, high fives all around!
DeleteWhat a wonderful thing to do! Here's a hand for you! You encouraged me last year and I soooooo appreciated it! I thank you for the article! We need to applaud more people in our lives and in our writing! An attitude of gratitude! Thanks for sharing and for your thanks! Happy Slicing! :)
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome, for sure! I'm glad to connect up with you again! Have a great weekend!
DeleteI marked that line the first time it appears in the book because it struck me. Little did I know it would reappear later on. What a special book and what a special way to allow Auggie's quiet strength to carry up your heart, and in turn the rest of ours! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteIt, with the article I shared, meant so much to me. I'm so glad we finally found a book we liked at the same time!
DeleteHooray for you! You are such an encourager! Wouldn't it be fun if we could all be together in one place to hear the applause and see the faces with smiles and tears? I am loving this challenge. All of the gracious people who take the time to lift one another up put a little extra 'umph' into my day. Thanks. I needed that!
ReplyDeleteSo great of you to say. It is a good dream!
DeleteAs soon as I saw "10 of 31", I thought, "Wow, double digits!" Thanks for the cute positive post! The article was neat. I think one reason I love slicing so much is all the encouragement I get from comments -- it truly is powerful.
ReplyDeleteIt is for sure, Jennifer. I hope I'll get to see everyone else's slices today but I'll have to sneak them in tonight. My company is here all weekend.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the Slice 10 Kudos and the standing ovation. I have a few posts without comments, and the insecure part of me wonders if I am a writer without an audience and if my words matter. But, alas, I know my words change me, they change the way I view the world, they help me gain insight and perspective. I know the audience seeking is not what's most important.

I am sorry you have not been found at times. I'll look for you!
DeleteLinda,
ReplyDeleteIt seems everywhere I turn in the blogging world I am hearing about WONDER. I love the way you wove this quote into today's message. Cheers to all, we are a third of the way there! ~ Theresa
Thanks for your words! It's going fast, isn't it?
DeleteLinda, you are so special to this community. Your words resonate with so many and your comments are always so thoughtful and meaningful. Thank you for this ovation, you are a rock star of educators. Many look to you for your words. I certainly do.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Elsie. It's been such fun interacting with you through this year & in these past ten days. What a lot a lot of support you have given to others. (I meant two lots!). Best to you this month!
DeleteDear Linda, I have so appreciated all of our comments on my blog. I feel like I'm making new friends through this experience. Thank you for sharing the article. That's a keeper!
ReplyDeleteThank you Julie. It definitely has been fun getting to know you on your posts, too. We're a third of the way through. Isn't that great!
DeleteLook at you--sharing applause. You are truly a magnet that keeps this community together--I can't believe how many posts you read and how many comments you make. In the words of my speech kids, "You Rock!" (and that is a compliment!)
ReplyDeleteIt's been a fun day with my son & family but I've managed to do these replies & a few others-am doing a bit more now. Thank you Deb. You rock too-I'm still waiting to move in down the hall in your teaching wing!
DeleteWow, my first standing O for writing! Thanks! Nice of you to spur us on so visually!
ReplyDeleteGlad to do it, we all deserve it! Thanks.
DeleteI found Wonder through your comments, and I listened to it on my way to my presentation at our state technology conference.
ReplyDeleteI became fixated on the Farting Nurse, afraid that it would become the Farting Presenter. But I made it through.
And they clapped. Wonderful feeling.
thanks
How great that you found it & were able to read. There is much in the book to applaud, and to us too. Thank you!
DeleteWhat a supportive thing you've done yet again for our community. Thanks so much for the standing ovation. You, my writing support friend, deserve much gratitude from so many of us. You continue on a daily basis not just to post your own writing, but to push us as writers with your comments and reflections. Sending a standing ovation your way as well!
ReplyDeleteThanks many times over for your words, too, Karen. Happy Sunday!
DeleteThank you for all of your support and standing ovations! You and your supportive comments have been instrumental in building this fabulous community. I always look forward to your comments. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome, Jen. I've enjoyed getting to read your blog during this challenge. Here's to the next ten days!
DeleteLinda,
ReplyDeleteWe've made it to day ten. I must applaud you on your enjoyable slices, and the amazing way you manage to balance commenting as well. I see your kind reflections kn many blogs as I travel and read.
Cathy
Cathy, I didn't find this until today, Monday. Thank you too. It's quite a feat that everyone has accomplished!
DeleteLinda, I am standing, giving you my ovation. You are fabulous!!!
ReplyDeleteHi Mary Helen, I just found this wonderful applause from you. Thank you!
DeleteThanks for the standing ovation! You deserve one as well. I have written more slices this year than I did last year. It feels great to write every day!
