We've Made It To Slice Number Ten - Be Proud!

The SOLSC Challenge is at the Two Writing Teachers blog hosted by Ruth and Stacey - This is the tenth day and if you've made it this far, you're beginning to create a great habit--writing every day!

I have carried around an old Newsweek essay that I've shared both with colleagues and students.  I thought you'd enjoy the thoughts that this writer shares about appreciation.  You can find it here.

Auggie, from that marvelous new book Wonder, by R.J. Palacio says:  “I think there should be a rule that everyone in the world should get a standing ovation at least once in their lives.”

This is my standing ovation for all the slicers in this challenge.  Happy Saturday and Happy Writing!  Thank you for all my support too!

  2. I am waiting for my copy of Wonder to arrive in the mail. I can't wait to find your quote in there. It feels so good to be a consistent writer again...it takes time but I appreciate those little moments so much more. A standing ovation to you too. Thank you for all of the wonderful comments. They just make my day.

  3. Linda, we all need some psychological stroking from time to time. As you offer your ovation to your fellow slicers, I take this opportunity to acknowledge you and your efforts, both as a fellow slicer and as a writer and educator whose feedback is most appreciated. More power to you...

  6. Linda,
I just finished Wonder last night and I loved it!!! That quote also resonated with me. Thanks for the standing ovation. I am proud of all of us slicers, too! Last year I tried the challenge, but only wrote 4 out of 31 days. I haven't missed a day yet, so I'm pretty proud of myself. It's sometimes a struggle, but completely worth it. Thanks for your encouragement and comments! :)

  7. Way to use that great quote from Augustus. That line stood out for me, too, and I agree: this year's slice has been something incredible. It's like someone opened the spigot for writers, and now, we are connecting into a larger writing community.

  9. Last night I told my husband excitedly this "Slice of Life" part of my life. I told him about you and others...and about the cheering I "heard" when people responded to my posts....and how I NEVER, ever even thought about that as a need or purpose...... He looked at me as if I were a little off or perhaps had a little too much wine when I said, "There are people out there who think like me!"

  13. Slice 10. Has a nice ring to it, doesn't it? I haven't read Wonder, yet, but I agree with Auggie says about standing ovations. Sometimes you have to just start the clapping yourself and hope everyone catches on, right? I'm glad we're on this journey together, Linda.

  18. One of my favorite parts of WONDER is Auggie's comment about standing ovations and then also a later part in the book related to that. Comments are like a standing ovation at times - don't you think? I always write my slice in my own head, of course. When I see others actually think it resonated with them I'm surprised and thrilled. Great post.

  22. I marked that line the first time it appears in the book because it struck me. Little did I know it would reappear later on. What a special book and what a special way to allow Auggie's quiet strength to carry up your heart, and in turn the rest of ours! Thank you!

  24. As soon as I saw "10 of 31", I thought, "Wow, double digits!" Thanks for the cute positive post! The article was neat. I think one reason I love slicing so much is all the encouragement I get from comments -- it truly is powerful.

  25. It is for sure, Jennifer. I hope I'll get to see everyone else's slices today but I'll have to sneak them in tonight. My company is here all weekend.

  26. Thanks for the Slice 10 Kudos and the standing ovation. I have a few posts without comments, and the insecure part of me wonders if I am a writer without an audience and if my words matter. But, alas, I know my words change me, they change the way I view the world, they help me gain insight and perspective. I know the audience seeking is not what's most important.
