The Sky

Time spent outside, in addition to reading and writing, is what I love the most.  Today was an especially good day to look!

The sky stretches like a cat,
lighting the day in an energetic light.
Raindrops pounce on dry lawns
and talk with quivering puddles.
This morning, I waited for this hushed awakening,
searched for a splash of pink across the sky,
timed to wake the crows and squirrels from cloudy slumber
and twist their dreams into milky sunshine.
Fragments of the day soon melt
twirling and swirling themselves together.
The minutes so quickly wash away.

  1. What a great way to begin the morning, stretching out lazily like a cat, awaiting bright pink streaks in the sky and gazing at your dreams 'twisted' in the 'milky sunshine' - beautiful. :)

  4. I'm up before the dawn most mornings so I enjoy watching the sky stretch like a cat while I'm sitting by the window and having my first cup of coffee. I love your Denver sky -- so beautiful.

  6. My favorite was "fragments of the day soon melt," too. I love how that sounds, like the day oozing away. Your photo was a beautiful addition.

    1. And it does seem to ooze, until it's gone, right? Thanks, Betsy!

  8. Linda,
I can tell you enjoy the morning as much as I do. I loved the words you used in this poem: stretches like a cat, energetic light, quivering puddles, cloudy slumber (actually I think it was the way you put them together). You are right, the minutes so quickly wash away.
