Among all the celebrations, one moment I will hold closely, a young girl so happy in a princess dress, asking if we want to watch her Christmas dance. She is giddy with the joy of the music, of the promise of gifts to come, and cousins visiting.
Christmas Memory
Young Ingrid twirls and
turns,
Delighting with her
Christmas dance.
Sad the earth turns in just
twenty-four hours.
No larking on Boxing Day,
dreams are past.
Wow! She really is the picture of pure joy, isn't she?
ReplyDeleteThanks, Carol. Yes, she was just wonderful in her happiness.
DeleteShe's poetry in motion!! Makes me want to dance!!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Mary Lee.
DeleteHi, Linda. This makes me feel bittersweet about how quickly the holidays pass and how soon the little ones grow up. Nostalgic for the magic and delight your Ingrid embodies.
ReplyDeleteYes, I suppose it is another of my 'goodbye' poems. But it was also just fun to watch her do 'the' dance. Thanks, Laura.
DeleteSuch a poignant poem. Little ones are so full of joy and so joyful in their expressing their love of the season.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Beverley. They bring much to us during this time, don't they?
DeleteI remember the days of twirling princesses. Christmas is about making memories.
DeleteSo true, Margaret, like your poems too!
DeleteWhat a fabulous moment, Linda! How fabulous that you captured it with your camera. Some of my best moments this holiday time were also spent with little people. Happy New Year! Enjoy your new home.
ReplyDeleteThanks Violet, & happy new year to you, too. Through the days, my house is 'happening'! Rugs are being placed & pictures hung. There is still much to do, but I think it's going to be good! I'm glad I tried to take the photo. Actually, Ingrid asked me to take a picture, so I did.
DeleteThe blurry, active motion of your photograph and poem are appropriate for what holidays/memories/life is like! So quick, so good to savor, now or later. Glad to hear your living space is coming together!
ReplyDeleteYes, it is a whirl isn't it? Thanks, Tabatha.
DeleteJust lovely! As Tabatha said, the whirliness of this photograph captures all the swiftly passing joy of sharing the holidays with family. I can tell that your celebrations were joyous indeed, Linda!
ReplyDeleteThanks Tara-it was much fun.
