I'm getting ready for spring, and it means gardens and growing plants and warmth and GREEN! After all, it's the first day of Daylight Savings Time, our first hint of spring on its way! Rainer Maria Rilke wrote: It is spring again. The earth is like a child that knows poems by heart.
Continuing my desire to write some poems for children.

Carrot Love
Carrots orange
crunch and munch-
easy carry
in bags for lunch.
Peel and shred
and slice and dice.
Stews are flavor-filled;
cakes taste of spice
And like bunnies
who love them too,
grab a carrot
Vitamin A for you!

NIce crunchy poem - made me want to go and eat one of those sweet little carrots! I was thinking about my garden today too!
ReplyDeleteYour carrot poem is so great! I also love the brightly colored picture of them that makes me think...no wonder rabbits love carrots so much! I love Thinking about Spring...the daylight savings time is the Winter's flag of surrender to the newness that will soon be arriving!

ReplyDeleteThe carrots have been especially good this winter here I remember, as a child, eating those little carrots straight from Mom's garden - just rub the dirt off on my shirt!

How perfect, I just ate lunch and substituted carrots for chips with my sandwich. So your poem was perfect accompaniment for after lunch reading. Hope you are enjoying the fun your family brings.

ReplyDeleteThis is wonderful! I want you to keep writing poetry for kids, too! I always have a hard time finding poetry for kids and I to love together. And, this one celebrates SO many spelling patterns that my kids and I could celebrate being able to read, too! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteooh, I love carrots! They are definitely my favorite veggie, and one of my favorite snacks! (I also love bunnies, so I like carrots for 2 reasons!) These poems for kids are quite cute, Linda! :-)
