I've just returned from spending most of the week in Honesdale, Pennsylvania at a workshop with David L. Harrison named Poetry for the Delight of It, and a delight it was. We wrote and talked, and listened and shouted hurrah for the wonderful poems written and shared. We skyped with J. Patrick Lewis and Renee La Tulippe, learning much from them as well as from the continual wise words from David. Janet Fagal stopped by on Thursday just to visit and add a little of her poetry enthusiasm. Joy Acey and Matt Forrest were there, along with 13 others whose names you may know from other poetry worlds besides poetry Friday: Cory Corrado, Deborah Holt Williams, Heidi Bee Roemer, Jeanne Poland, Joy Acey, Julie Stiegemeyer, Karen Eastlund, Kathy Doherty, Linda Dryfhout, Michele Schaub, Patricia Cooley, Tom Ohl and Sue Fowler.
I
woke up this morning
feeling
quiet inside and out.
I
wondered what was missing
until
I looked about.
My
writer friends at Highlights
had
all gone home again.
I’ll
be missing them for days and days;
we
had such fun,
so when
you
need to find a group that’s wise,
and
kind and smart and funny, too,
just
look where David’s holding court
and
that’s the group for you!
And
now I have to tell you all
I’ve come home to the first snow.
I
want my lovely autumn back
of
sunshine with that red-orange glow!

Hi, Linda. I'm so glad you had a great time at this poetry workshop/retreat. And so many PF friends! I'm heading to the Poconos for a poetry retreat this weekend, much needed.
ReplyDeleteIt was so beautiful there, so I imagine you will have a wonderful time, too, Laura!
DeleteWhat a grand time you have had, Linda! We are still glorying in Fall, but snow is just around the corner,,,sigh.
ReplyDeleteIt was so beautiful back your way, Tara! And it was a joyous time! Thanks and again, so happy about your new TWT role! Lots to talk about soon, right?
DeleteLinda - your poem tells it like it is about David Harrison. LOL. Sounds like a wonderful time and glorious foliage too! Here in FL, we can only tell it's Fall by somewhat milder evenings. Yesterday, though, was in the 90s. Ugh!
ReplyDeleteIt was hot when I left in PA too, BJ, & now, rain and snow & cold! What a change. We did have a wonderful time!
DeleteHad such a nice time at the conference. It was a pleasure to become acquainted with you, Linda! In case you want to check out my blog or website, you can do so here: http://jottingsandsuch.blogspot.com/ and here: http://juliestiegemeyer.net
ReplyDeleteHi Julie, I'll add your link to my post-I didn't know about it! It was wonderful to have time to get to know you too! Hope you'll continue to have good work in the publishing world!
DeleteLinda, what a experience you had. So perfect for you. And snow? It was 90 in central IL today. I'm looking for fall too. :)
ReplyDeleteIt was a terrific time, Katherine-good to be there! And-it is supposed to warm up-hope they're right! It snowed a bit this afternoon too-what a day! I imagine you will have part of this storm that's moving out toward you.
DeleteSnow already? Wow. Glad you had a good time in Honesdale. Sounds like a great group for learning, listening, exchanging ideas and relaxing. I've heard the meals there are fabulous too. :)
ReplyDeleteJama, you would have loved the food! Breakfast-mid-morning snacks, lunch, pre-dinner poo-poos, and then dinner with deserts. The last night-apple pie! For all you pie lovers, a delight. Good words and good food! Thanks!
DeleteI'm so glad you were able to go, but to come back to snow!? Oh no! We're still hot and humid here. I look forward to reading more of your poetry created during the workshop!
ReplyDeleteWell, I worked on some poems, Keri, but will see what I want to share. They will need some work before going public! Glad you're still having some good, hot weather. We're going to warm up again too!
DeleteGlad you got to enjoy a poetry workshop at Highlights, Linda. I went to the Poetry for All workshop last year, and it was a delight. Savor all that inspirtation!!
ReplyDeleteWow, Buffy, would be fun to meet and write with you! It was such a terrific time & I will savor it!
DeleteSounds like you had a blast, Linda. Such a lovely experience. it's always great to be with a group of affirming, like-minded individuals. Beautiful! Loved your poem too! Autumn is gone? Winter has come? Wow. Such rapid turning of the leaves.
ReplyDeleteI think we'll have some more autumn weather, Myra. This seemed to be just the edge of a storm moving north. I did have a great time, so inspiring to be with all those wonderful poets!
DeleteThank you, Linda, for sharing your experience at Highlight's poetry workshop. You've inspired me to carve out some time for writing some poetry today.
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome, Catherine. Time is the issue isn't it? To find those good dedicated minutes to write!
DeleteThat's a lovely view. Seems to match all the wonderful experiences those Highlights folks create. So glad you had the chance to be there.
ReplyDeleteThank you Dori. Every.single.thing was marvelous!
DeleteI loved knowing you were close by this past week!
ReplyDeleteI love this and wished I could have been there. We should planned a conference to attend together.
ReplyDeleteMary Lee and Jone, for some reason, Blogger won't allow me to comment to you individually. Thanks for stopping by. Mary Lee, I wish you could have been there-much fun, and you too, Jone. Maybe there can be a Poetry Nerd Camp?
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like such fun! Can't imagine being in a poetry workshop with so many 'virtual' friends. There is something so special about meeting people you know from being online, in person.
ReplyDeleteBundle up now!
- Violet N.
Hi Violet, I loved doing this, and some of the poets I had only met via e-mail, some (as you see) I did know via blogging. But we just had no trouble talking, talking about poetry and writing! It was much fun!
DeleteIt was so enjoyable getting to know you and all the others better, Linda! Thanks for being a part of it, and hopefully we'll meet up again sometime!
ReplyDeleteI hope so, Matt. I've been excited about all this writing since I left, but life itself has gotten in the way while I catch up, so no more sweet writing time lately, at least on the poems. Best to you this fall in all that you do!
DeleteSounds crazy awesome wonderful! A gift I'd like to give myself at some point.
ReplyDeleteI hope you do, Michelle. It was just terrific!
DeleteHighlights Poetry workshops are magical - I've been fairy-dusted with two! So glad you got to go and connect with such an inspiring, talented group. And - SNOW?! Stay warm and cozy. (Good excuse to stay inside and write!)
ReplyDeleteOh, Robyn, now you have inspired me even more to learn that you've been too! Our snow didn't last long, now back to lovely Autumn with only cool nights. Hope it lasts for a while longer... Thanks!
