There is that spirit in the air, busy with final projects at school, planning for different kinds of celebrations, with students, colleagues and friends, and then finally, family! This recent week I
*had high tea with friends at a local tea house, complete with lemon curd and clotted cream on scones!
*had a cozy evening with my writers group, enjoying beautiful words and vegetable soup!
*loved having book groups, writing groups, and book talks with students, a marvelous conversation with two groups of colleagues, and various one-on-one talks with teachers, readying for the turning of the year, the "what's next" in planning!
*enjoyed dinner out with a family friend.
*finished several good books, and started new ones.
And today, am decorating my new Christmas tree with granddaughter Ingrid! Looking forward to the final week before break with students and colleagues. We hold a Festival of Light on the last day of school where groups and individuals all over the school celebrate light that enters our lives in many ways through displays. For a quiet hour, all of us tour the school to visit the displays, a very special time. I have used the following quote in the past, am not sure yet what I'll share this year: "Turn your face to the sun and the shadows fall behind you." Maori Proverb We would display the quote and students would draw their own version of the sun to illustrate.

DeleteI love the idea of Festival of Lights. I think that I need to find all the lights (-cordless and flameless candles) that I have and put them on my windows. I want to celebrate light at the darkest time of the year! Happy decorating with your granddaughter!

DeleteWhat a fabulous week! I'm curious to know about the books you finished and the new ones you started. Your festival of light sounds absolutely lovely. I've yet to fire up the lights on our deck. Our weather this weekend is a little warmer, and you've inspired me to go work on them.
