So, it was a good week, a full week, but a three day weekend is something to celebrate for everyone SO tired even though they recently had a long winter break. We all decided coming back into the 'swing' of school is more tiring than starting school. Reminds me of a marching band getting back into their cadence, practice helps, but still…
And I'd like to start with a thought for Dr. Martin Luther King, someone I am glad to have known as a part of my living history, and feel sorrowful for his too early death. He is quoted as saying: "Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter."
- My week with teachers held good conversations.
- I began a book group reading Tuck Everlasting by Natalie Babbitt.
- I gave a non-fiction book talk for a group of older intermediate students.
- I hosted my writing group; energy abounds!
- Planned our Newbery Celebration for THE day of awards announced!
- Wrote with one older class practicing for the "slice of life".
- Worked with three young primary students in expanding their writing.
- I saw the opening of the Intermediate School play Thursday evening, which was terrific!
- And, I loved the sky. If you are on Facebook with me, you understand. I have amazing views nearly every evening from my sofa. Here's one!
My grand girls are coming to visit most of the day today, and the oldest will spend the night. I may post a picture later. They will play and play, we'll read and read, then I'm sure ice cream will be enjoyed somewhere in the day! Always time to celebrate ice cream. Do you know the silly verse: I scream/you scream, we all scream/for ice cream?
Have a terrific week everyone!
Oh, if there's ice cream! Definitely it's celebration time! I wrote my ice cream poem for the A to Z Challenge a while back. mainelywrite.blogspot.com/2012/04/i-is-for-ice-cream.html. Enjoy your visit with the granddaughters!
ReplyDeleteThanks Donna, I certainly will. Our weather just gets warmer, so I imagine we'll get to the park!
DeleteYay for ice cream and grandgirls. Looks like you had a full and productive week. Love the sky pictures!
ReplyDeleteThanks Margaret. It was a good week, and the weekend will be a pleasure too!
DeleteSO much to celebrate. Your rainbow - how magical; your teaching - how inspiritng; your grandkids - how luscious your day will be!
ReplyDeleteThanks Anita, it was a great week!
DeleteI love Tuck Everlasting! Sometimes it is difficult for 4th graders but I still love it. There are so many great lines about life! My favorite line is “Don't be afraid of death; be afraid of an unlived life. You don't have to live forever, you just have to live.”
ReplyDeleteHave a great week.
Yes, I agree, Natalie Babbitt can do no wrong here, Leigh Anne. It's such a treasure of a story to read, and with a group to discuss! Thanks!
DeleteSo many good things to celebrate. Congratulations on a fun and full (and tiring) week back!
ReplyDeleteThank you!
Delete"Why are there so many songs about rainbows?" Because they're beautiful, that's why. What a great week you had, full to the brim with celebrations!
ReplyDeleteOh, love the quote, immediately started singing, Earl. Thank you!
DeleteI love the view from your couch! I think I'd have to be planted there for sunset each night. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Katherine-it's been amazing lately!
DeleteA busy week crowned with glorious skies every day - much to celebrate. Enjoy the day with your grandkids!
ReplyDeleteThanks Tara-will enjoy every bit!
DeleteTuck Everlasting is one of my all-time favs! I love your sky pictures! Enjoy your granddaughters. :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks Holly! I love Tuck too, & am so happy to read it again with a group!
DeleteI love the quick reflection on the best parts of the week this celebration allows us to take. You have had a great week and an even more fun weekend ahead.
ReplyDeleteYes, it's lovely to look back & see what a truly good week it was. Thanks Elsie!
DeleteHave a great time with your grandkids and ice cream should be a part of any day. :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks Alyson! Always!
DeleteWhat a wonderful week. Life can be so grand. Loved your many moments, the sky and the thought of grandkids joining you.
ReplyDeleteThanks Julieanne! It will be a good day, too!
DeleteSo much to celebrate! I especially loved the sky photos as we have been socked in with fog ALL week! Now i like a foggy misty day sometimes but this week I felt smothered! Enjoy the grand girls.
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed my skies! Strange weather everywhere!
DeleteWhat a fun week you have had! Enjoy your time with your girls!
ReplyDeleteBoth napping now! Thanks Jaana, it was a very good week!
DeleteEnjoy those grandgirls! We visited Grandparents for dinner last night and my children shared their report cards. Was such a nice evening! Love hearing about all of the students you are working with!
ReplyDeleteThanks Carrie-what fun to look forward to that! I used to do it with my grandson, now in Texas. He was always so excited to show me.
DeleteEnjoy your time with them --nothing is more important than that. What a reason to celebrate!
ReplyDeleteThanks
Clare
Thanks, will do-they're napping now, so have some time to read a bit.
DeleteLinda--all of that sounds so lovely. What a great week. It's also so wonderful that you too the time to really sit with your appreciation of it all.
ReplyDeleteThanks Liz, it actually is a pleasure to reflect on what happened to celebrate. I hope you'll join us!
DeleteIt is no wonder the groups in which you play a part are filled with energy, inspiration, and fun! That sky is most definitely beautiful and I love that your celebration continues into tonight with your grandgirls.
ReplyDeleteThanks Christy, it's a treat to have the grand girls over every single time!
DeleteLoved hearing about your fun celebrations. Enjoy every moment with your grand girls! I want to know what you're planning for Newbery Award Announcement day. Silly me - we have a field trip that day! I'm trying to plan an early celebration before we leave. I would love to have you practice with my students for Slice of Life. Lucky students!
ReplyDeleteThanks Ramona-we're planning to reveal how they voted very early, have some treats, then watch part of the ceremony. We don't think they'll be able to stay for the 'whole' thing, but we'll post it very large as soon as we know! I'll be in touch secretly to let you know how they vote!
DeleteI like the bullet point list of the week followed by repetition of play-play, read-read with ice-cream as an anchor and a rainbow arching over all of it. Great week indeed.
ReplyDeleteThanks Terje, the celebration continues this morning! Cinnamon toast and up before the sun!
DeleteI like that Carol called those skies "hallelujah skies." I miss CO skies!!
ReplyDeleteYes, the skies are extraordinary. Thanks, Mary Lee!
