Slice of Life - Best Laid Plans...

Thanks to the writers at Two Writing Teachers for hosting the slicing community!  I hope you're all anticipating the March Slice of Life Challenge.  See Tara Smith's great post yesterday about her class and their writing adventures while slicing here!  Margaret Simon of Reflections on The Teche and I are the support team for those who are entering the challenge with their classrooms.  See her wonderful post today that will help you begin.  Like Margaret, if you have questions, you can leave them in the comments, or e-mail me at LindaB414 at gmail dot com. I'm the connection for teachers whose names begin with A through M.

#NFPB10for10 - Remember that tomorrow, Cathy Mere and Mandy Robek are hosting this event!  Don't miss it!

One dictionary consulted reads that "Serendipity is finding something good without really looking for it." As I consider our lives observed as slices of life, I realized sometimes things that have taken a wrong turn do turn out okay! My son, daughter-in-law and grandson flew in Friday to ski with their friends and immediately went to our condo in the mountains.  They arrived at my house Sunday evening for a quick visit with my daughter, son-in-law and two granddaughters. It was a lovely evening, and then Monday was spent with more visiting and shopping at a few stores they don't have where they live.  They left about 5pm to catch their flight back to Texas.  It's always hard to say goodbye, but I was happy to have seen them even for a short time, took a quick picture and off they went.

It was going to be a quiet evening, right!  I sat down at the computer to read some Monday blog posts, thinking about dinner prep, and then my grandson called.

Their flight had been canceled! After scrambling: first they couldn't get another for a day, then it was the afternoon, and by the time I picked them up, my son had settled for a very early flight (his plans were originally to get home, do a quick re-packing, and leave this am for a business trip) and the others were on a later morning flight.  We had another evening together, I've been up since 3:30am, and I've said goodbye again!  We did it, they're off, and while the day is not what was planned, we will survive!
Off again!

Off I go!
Here's the extra bonus, arriving back home, 5:15am, the moon still up but completing its arc.

Have a terrific week everyone!  I promise I'll share more about the conference next week!

  5. We went through this at Christmas in Portland, OR. My sister, her husband & daughter came for 12 days. The night before, as blizzards were raging int he Midwest & East Coast, we checked their flight status. Their flight was canceled. Lots of phone calls later we sort of had a plan. The made it to Chicago, then encountered more chaos. The finally made it home the next day. No luggage of course.

    1. I keep hearing more stories... Guess we need to learn flexibility always, don't we? It was lovely having another evening, but they are missing their 'day' today, so were a bit panicked at that. Happy your family made it too!

  9. Having a flight cancelled or a planned quiet evening interrupted may be annoying, but this time it was a gift of another evening together.

    1. Yes, of course! I had a great time. It was fun to take pics of them at the airport-we were chuckling all the way-life just is too funny. And the airport is on the plains so I watched the moon all the way back home, had to take that pic & luckily it was bright enough to catch it & the trees. Thanks Jennifer!
