I had a terrific week in a classroom of 4th and 5th grade aged students. They are wonderful students, and it was a joy to work with them. I enjoyed working with my colleagues, too. But I, like all teachers on Friday, am tired! My week was filled with student interactions, lunch meetings with various grade-level groups, and a few individual meetings. And the week began with my granddaughter Ingrid's fifth birthday dinner Monday evening. She had a special birthday, a palindrome, 4-14-14. Today is the final day of that phenomenon this week, 4-19-14.
One text to celebrate: my grandson Carter, a 7th grade, was invited into the National Honor Society. I bet he's pleased, and I am proud of him.
I am guest posting today with Laura Shovan here at her blog, Author Amok, sharing my own "source" poem.
I reviewed Meenoo Rami's new book, Thrive here. If you don't know the book, you should. It's terrific.

I know it's spring, the meadowlarks are back at school. My school, just minutes away, is more on the prairie edge and it backs onto a wetlands. When I hear that sweet sound, I know spring has arrived. Click on the video and enjoy!
How could I not celebrate a five year old who wants to show me how she can run down the hill?
And I watched big sister Ingrid help little sister Imogene put on her boots.
I'm still watching the sky, and here is one, fish swimming in the cloud ocean!
I hope you have had much to celebrate this past week, with more to come on Sunday if you celebrate Easter.
Five is a magical number. Then again, with children, each year is so special. I hope that you took some time and ran down the hill too. Makes you feel ageless, as does the sky watching. :)
ReplyDeleteYes, I ran, too, Terje. The park is just a short block away, and we run there too. Thank you!
DeleteAlways love birthday celebrations! Love the fish swimming in the sea too - a perfect picture! Enjoy today!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Michelle. Birthdays for young kids are really magical, aren't they? Ingrid was so excited! And I love watching the sky to find another good picture!
DeleteThe girls are growing up so quickly! I've been listening to the birds this week too. Such a happy sound. Happy Easter to you!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Elsie, and the same to you too. Looks like our weather is going to be just right for Easter! Yes, five seems old, doesn't it?
DeleteJoy, joy indeed. Thank you for sharing this happiness. Ingrid and Imogene might be the best names ever. I say this as the mother of a Felix. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Kimberley, and love your "Felix", too. With a name like Linda, I appreciate those names a lot!
DeleteImages of JOY. Thanks for sharing.....and there is something about sky photos that fills me with happiness. Blue, gray, cloud-filled it doesn't matter.
ReplyDeleteThank you. I know what you mean about the sky. I keep finding new images to capture-always pleasing!
DeleteHooray for Carter! Hooray for charming pictures of charming grandchildren! And hooray for another week of much to celebrate in Linda's life! I am off to see "King Lear" with Bonnie...cause for celebration, too!
ReplyDeleteOh, that sounds fabulous, Tara. Hugs to both of you!
DeleteWhat a nice week full of celebrations! I love the joy of running down a hill. Children know how to celebrate the small things so well. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteThanks Andrea. Yes, kids show us what's important for sure. Hope your week is good too!
DeleteThanks for sharing the Meadowlarks. Made me smile.
ReplyDeleteI adore the sound, and was happy to find something to share, Crystal. Glad you enjoyed it, too!
DeleteLove that picture of the sky! Reading these celebrations is joyful!
ReplyDeleteThanks Jaana. It was a good week!
DeleteThe meadowlarks are so loud, I can actually hear them inside my car (even with all the windows up) as I'm speeding down the highway to work (across miles of rolling prairie). Your week sounds incredibly busy, but also very rewarding!
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful to hear so many meadowlarks, Elisabeth. That's a cause for celebration by itself!
DeleteI left a comment over at Laura's site. Thanks for sharing with us. The meadowlark is a sound from my childhood. I never knew what bird it was in the woods behind my childhood home. I recognize it. That meadowlark is calling to be in a poem somewhere.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Margaret. I'm sorry the pictures didn't come through in my post. How wonderful you recognize the lark-takes me back to Willa Cather too.
DeleteBeautiful celebrations! So many I'm not sure where to start. I loved Meenoo Rami's book (I think your teachers will too). Your pictures are wonderful. From the fish swimming to the grand girls running in pink. So much happiness here. And thanks for the link to your found poem.
ReplyDeleteThank you Julieanne. It was a great week!
DeletePeople look for hearts everywhere so why not images in clouds right! That sounds like a fun project to undertake sometimes!
ReplyDeleteTerrific idea, Earl. I will now be looking!
DeleteI read somewhere about the palindrome days this week, and then forgot to share it with my students. There's never enough time to do it all. I've heard many good things about Thrive. But it's probably not my season to buy it. Love the granddaughter pics.
ReplyDeleteThanks Ramona. I agree about remembering all those small things you want to share with students-never enough time. Maybe Thrive someday!
DeleteLinda, I love all of your photos and especially love the sky photo. What beauty. Sounds like a tiring, lovely week. Celebrate!
ReplyDeleteThanks Deb, it was a good week, you're right. And I loved sleeping in this morning!
DeleteWhat a great way to celebrate the week.
ReplyDeleteThanks Alyson. Hope your next week is good!
DeleteI love all your celebrations, but my favorite one was probably the picture of your granddaughter running down the little hill. Pictures like that remind me of the joy young ones have at the smallest of moments. They could really teach everyone a lot about noticing all the celebrations around us!
ReplyDeleteYes, they can and mine do, Karen, every time I'm with them. Thank you!
DeleteSuch a beautiful week to celebrate. I love your granddaughter running down the hill. I taught kindergarten for two years. I loved their joy and wonder in everything they encountered.
ReplyDeleteThanks Katherine. I agree, it is a joy when I get to spend time in our primary rooms.
DeleteBeautiful post, Linda. Happy birthday to your little one -- thanks for sharing those pictures of Ingrid running down the hill. That's a skill to be proud of! Thanks too for being a guest at Author Amok -- loved your post.
ReplyDeleteThanks for all, Laura. It was both a challenge and a pleasure writing for your source poem idea.
