Beauty, created by an app

Time for Tuesday's Slice of Life Sharing at Two Writing Teachers
Come join us!  Tweet at #SOL14

Part of my life, as many know, is reading blog posts. I enjoy them, I learn from them, and share what I read often. Last Saturday, Tara Smith wrote here at TWT about her amazing end-of-the-year multi-genre project. While I loved every bit of the description of her work, what caught my eye also was the mention of an app for IPad & other devices named Waterlogue. I've been playing with it since then. We've had snow since Saturday night, so Saturday I raced around taking pictures of those flowers that were already blooming because I knew we would soon lose them. Here are the pictures, but created into watercolor paintings from this app. I just had to show you! There are multiple choices of the look one selects, and one can frame them, or create a postcard from the art, print and mail. It was super easy. Here are the basic pics I chose. The snow pic Monday morning, then the flowers from Saturday, plus one of apples because I wanted to try it. Enjoy looking, and then perhaps create your own!
FYI-I'm also excited that I'm leaving Thursday to visit my son, daughter-in-law and grandson in Texas, to see Carter's spring concert & two baseball games! Can't wait!

And-discovered late, my 'water-based' poem is being shared at Michelle Barnes Today's Little Ditty. You can visit there to find out about Laura Purdie Salas' poetic challenge, and to read the poem.

  4. I love this app, Linda (PS. Thanks for the shout out!), and for a (very) brief moment, I had actually convinced my kids that I had taken up paining in my "free" time! Playing around with the shading is fun, too - and someday I might use it to illustrate my still-in-the-works picture book!

    1. I need to play with more of the options for sure, Tara, but I was so in love with this look, couldn't stop. Thank you for sharing about it, and what a wonderful idea to use these for your picture book. Maybe for my goodbye poems? Fun joke with your students...

    1. What I also thought is that one could take pics of students' drawings, then see what happens if one tries those pictures in this? Thanks Maureen, hope you have fun with it!

  10. How fun! I saw Tara post earlier but didn't really pay attention. I've learned to always pay attention. I wonder if this could be a mentor for children and their illustrations. Comparing the idea as a normal photo, what we see and then how we transform the look with a different media. Talking to my art teacher tomorrow morning.

    1. I suspect there could be so many applications, Mandy. And as I said, there are so many other choices of how to transform the photos. Hope you'll let us all know what your art teacher thinks about it.

  11. I can't wait to check out the app, but know that for now...I mustn't go there, too much grading to be done in my life. I would love to play around with some of my photos. I hope I'll remember this app once school is out, and I have a bit more free time. Is there a way to print out the pics?
Enjoy that spring concert and those baseball games in Texas. You won't have to worry about snow there.

    1. No, my son tells me it will be in the 90's! Crazy weather! Yes, you'll be able to print. I thought of you and your trees! You can put a frame around them, change the look, create postcards, etc. Remember, and have fun. Good luck on the grading, too!

  12. I am finally catching up with some blog reading. Using technology allows us to do amazing things. The pics you share are surprising. It always puzzles me how some people are so knowledgeable and creative to create all the tools and apps that we use. Enjoy your time in Texas!
