Where I Work at Home

Time for Tuesday's Slice of Life Sharing at Two Writing Teachers
Come join us!  Tweet at #SOL14
Hope all is going well in your days left at school. And if you're out, happy for you, but I have two more very busy weeks, and I know some of you have more than that. Soon, summer for all of us!

Last Friday, Stacey shared her newly organized work space and asked others to blog about theirs. So here is where I work at home. I forgot to take a couple of pictures of my office at school. Let's just say that it is also filled. I ought to have an auction when I retire just for the teaching materials, and some of the books!

My new home has a room off the kitchen which was meant for a breakfast nook. I also have a dining room, so this space is perfect for my office at home. It has two large windows and is bright and cheerful. My former house backed to the east and my new home backs on the west. I miss that eastern light very much, so this 'side' room facing south (and west) is the next best thing. It's nice to have a good sunny space. I am rather organized, but the piles do appear, and finally, finally, I make myself clean out and put things where they should be. The room where I read (you'll see) is lined with bookshelves and one corner has a large file cabinet, but for personal business stuff. It's downstairs, a 4th bedroom I guess, but not now, kind of my library!

Where I read-a corner of the library room.

An old kitchen table serves as a workspace in my office. I write here
sometimes.
The cart on the left is new, from Ikea, and has three baskets,
a great thing for current stuff.

Obviously, my desk, printer and my lovely view!

Bookshelf to the right of the desk, miscellany, tech things,
IPad and Kindle, journals, current PD books up on top.
There are two more tall shelves in the corners. I guess some would say the room is crammed! Under the table are toys and blocks for the grand girls when they come to play. I love the room!
And that's a SLICE of my office/work/reading life!

  1. I love that big comfy chair in your reading corner. It looks like such a cosy spot. It must be lovely to sneak away there and lose yourself in a good book. Thank you for including the pics.

  2. LOVELY. I used to have the SAME OLD kitchen table! In fact, it USED to BE my office as a tiny corner of my kitchen/family area. I wrote my dissertation there (on a laptop)! I've upgraded and maybe in another week I will have my new office cleaned up enough for a photo session!

    1. Those old tables are still around, I know. This one came from our cabin, so I brought it home when I sold the cabin last year. Special story from you, Anita!

  3. Fun to see where you work! I don't have an office right now, but someday… And it will have to have lots of sun, preferably eastern! I may have to move!

    1. Thanks Carol. I really do miss that east sun, but being so close to everything is important too, so compromise, compromise.

  5. Love that you have a purpose for each aspect of your office and we LOVE the old kitchen table as a workspace. We both like to move around when we work so we also like the options you have in your office. Thanks for sharing!

    1. Thanks, Clare and Tammy. You're right, and I hadn't thought of it that way. I do move around per the work I'm doing.

  6. When you work, you need to have your "stuff." This looks just perfect!

    1. And Elsie, that 'stuff' keeps growing, even though I cleaned out & gave away so much when I moved out of the classroom! Teachers collect 'stuff'! Thank you!

  7. Your office, just off the breakfast nook, is beautiful. I love the reading corner of your office in particular. It looks like a cozy place to fall into a great book.

  9. You make me want to come for a visit and sit in that comfy chair. I'm happy you have such a lovely space to create in. Mine is my kitchen. My office is another room that I rarely use.

    1. If you consider it, mine is really the kitchen, too, & it's because of the windows. The library is good for reading, but I wouldn't work in there really.

  10. It was lovely visiting your office/library virtually. I wouldn't have minded a working mess.

    1. Thanks Terje, I don't mind much of a mess either, but want to know where most things are!

  11. I love the chair - looks a great place to read. I always tease my daughter that her room will become my office when she moves out. As much as I hate to see her go, it will be nice to have a space besides all over the dining room table and our bedroom which is where all of my "stuff" is. Have a great week!

    1. I understand. It was harder when the kids were home, but we did have one extra bedroom space then which is where the teaching things were.

    1. Thanks Tara, I love those windows! And if you remember, I think I mostly bought this home because of that huge old tree. Important things!

    1. Thank you. I didn't mention it, but my daughter & family are going to come to stay for a week or so while they do some renovation in their home. It'll be interesting to see how the space works then!
