Celebrate with Ruth Ayres at Discover Play Build! It's the little things that make good days. Thanks to Ruth, we all get to do this together!
I'm late, it's been a long week filled with fun and other stuff that's both good and not so good, depending on the day, but I know there was a bright spot every day. Here are some pictures that are part of that.

Students reading, and then POSTING their reviews on the new blog! If you'd like to check the posts out, here's the link: http://lindaandjk.blogspot.com The ice skating is of the class (or their skates) before the holiday break. |

We have an annual alumni panel where alum students are invited to speak to an audience about their time at school. It's always wonderful to see the students again, although we do see them once in a while, and to hear them tell how much learning at Logan has meant to them in either high school or college days. |
|
I'm taking my class to the Museum of Contemporary Art to visit the idea of the "power in art". There's a terrific exhibit there. They also have a kid space, and today, when I went to prep for the trip, my daughter and granddaughters went with me. (My daughter is the program director there.) They also have a children's space, the bubble room. It's a delight, and here are Ingrid and Imogene playing! |

Must stop to take a pic of the sunset-ever beautiful! |
I had a wonderful visitor last week, a former student in his first college year, coming back to tell me he was very interested in education reform. We talked as much as we could, through my lunch duty, and he stayed with the class for a while. He asked good questions about learning and teaching, how the school looked to him now that he's studying education, and how he wants to learn more and more. It was a genuine pleasure, exciting and motivating for me.
Wonderful pictures, especially that sunset. Wow!
ReplyDeleteWhat a treat to have a former student come back and talk ed reform! So interesting how he's looking at his past from this new perspective. And how wonderful he came to you. That says a lot about your impact on him. Not surprising.
Thanks Julieanne, I really do believe we have an impact that we may never know, & when I am able to talk with former students about what they're doing & thinking, it keeps me thinking too. I am grateful!
DeleteI love when students come back and visit! Talking about education reform?!?! That's wonderful!! Your sunset pictures are always so breathtaking as are the pictures of your granddaughters! So glad you celebrated!!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Michelle, it is wonderful to see former students, I agree. So glad you like the sky pics. Our skies are amazing, but sometimes I wonder if I share too much?
DeleteLinda, how wonderful that your students are able to visit an art music. There should be great reflections coming out of that field trip. We learned at our curriculum institute that there is power in fieldwork ( a new term for field trips ) - meaning that students take on the role of researchers as they visit exhibits and take notes that will later impact their learning. The topic of the power in art should ignite sparks in their minds. I am glad that you had a great week. BTW: I enjoy making soup so yours looks like a yummy vegetable soup.
ReplyDeleteYes, I didn't use the term, but we say 'field work' too, Carol. It's a large part of the curriculum, out into the world! Each student in the school has a field journal in which they capture all the learning on trips out of the school. Glad you like the soup-definitely a winter perk! Thanks!
DeleteSoup! One of my favorite parts of winter. :) There is much to celebrate here! Today, I'm reading everyone's posts. Basketball has started. With 2 players to shuttle, that has thrown a kink in my Celebrate time. (But has also given me much to truly celebrate) :) I must rethink this during the upcoming week.
ReplyDeleteThose days of shuttling-lots of time spent, but I made some good friends talking with parents, too, Kendra. Best of luck to your kids in their season! Glad you like the soup pic!
DeleteYou are so busy, but you always find (make) time to reflect upon your days. Reflection is key to happiness, or one of them. Your school continues to fascinate me. Have you encouraged the former student to blog? He may benefit from the reflective practice.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure he has time, Margaret, but he is also on twitter, & more active than I am! Reflection is an important aspect of our school, from the youngest on, so I'm rather stuck in always looking back to see what was good, what needs more, etc. Thanks!
DeleteSuch a beautiful week. Those little granddaughters look like so much fun! So wonderful for you to have connections and discussions like this with former students.
ReplyDeleteThanks Carrie, it was a good week, though so, so busy. I'm happy for this extra day on the weekend!
DeleteYou had such a busy week, Linda! It is so nice that your former student came back to visit and learn from you again. You made quite an impression on him when he was your student, I'm sure! I also enjoyed your picture of the sunset. We have had some amazing sunrises and sunsets here in Wisconsin lately. Now if it would just stay longer for its visit. :) Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteJennifer
Thanks, Jennifer. This student and I have stayed in touch all through the years, lucky for me!
DeleteYour photos would create a celebration without words too, but I am glad you found the time to write. Your final paragraph about your former student sends a positive message that young people are still interested in the field of education.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Terje. I believe that many are interested, but they still may not stay in. Lots of work for little pay doesn't help. The biggest reward is working with children.
DeleteLinda, there's so much joy in this post: the pic of Ingrid and Imogene playing, the sunset, a visit from a former student, and students reading! Definite bright spots to celebrate! Have a great week.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Ramona-it was a good week! Fun with students and the grand girls always makes me happy!
DeleteLoved that photograph of Ingrid and Imogene
ReplyDeleteplaying, Linda. What a delight for you to be able to be a part of their lives in this way. Love the sky picture, too - Denver skies seem to have a magic all their own. Have a wonderful new week!
Thanks, Tara. Our skies are pretty amazing, I agree. Hope your week is good, too!
