Poetry Friday-Swap Appreciation

Poetry Friday is hosted today by Tabatha at The Opposite of Indifference. Come read and love the words shared!

For Tabatha's winter poetry swap, some of us were paired, and some in a 'round robin' sort of way. This time, I sent to Keri Collins Lewis of KeriRecommends, and she sent a surprise to me. Keri and I don't know each other well, but occasionally read each other's posts. I know she's in love with haiku and that she lives on a farm in Mississippi, and keeps bees. It always sounds like an idyllic place to be, and I enjoyed imagining what it must be like, and also wondering what I could send her. Only a guess, perhaps a little serendipity, and a dash of magic could manufacture such wonderful gifts. There's a bar of honeycomb soap from Keri's own Prairie Blossom Bee Farm, and a beautiful ceramic heart with four little birds placed on, just so. I rather figured Keri loved nature, but she might not have known I do too. And I use only natural soap. What a treat it was to open her box and find these:
And it was even more wonderful to find this:

Did I mention my favorite color is red? Keri's poem was a wonderful gift Thanks so much, Keri!

  1. Linda, how special this gift is! Keri's poem is such a different take from other poems on winter-an ornament? I am going to ask her if this can be her offering for the Winter Whisperings Gallery. I must have missed the Winter Swap but would be interested in other exchanges. Could you alert me to any further ones? Enjoy your winter days this weekend. I look forward to see how you celebrated this cold week in Colorado.

    1. Yes, it's a perfect poem for your Winter Whisperings, Carol. Thank you. We don't have the weather as bad as you all in the east, seem to be just on the edge of the storm. Best wishes to you to keep warm and cozy!

  3. Oh, I love the poem and gifts. Perfectly suited for you! It is only my first winter poetry swap, but it was so much fun. I love hearing what others sent or did...kind of like getting another gift when I read all the wonderful poems.
Red. Yes, winter shines with that sprinkling of red!

  7. Dear Linda,
"Winter Ornament" by Keri Lewis is color bright.
I luv how her words help me think of something more than ice, snow, gray branches, or white for the typical North winter season (penning this in Florida, here).
It's a heartmelt share, all around.

  9. Oh, that poem becomes winter...! Just wonderful. While I couldn't swing the swap this winter, I was lucky enough to be paired with Keri last year. Loved receiving not only her poetry but some delights from their beekeeping enterprise, too! :0)

  13. I always think of winter as dark and gloomy, but I love how the poem brings out winter's subtle coloring so well. What a wonderful gift.

  14. I LOVE this poem! Red is my favorite color too, but it's not a color I usually associate with winter. This poem really does make me see the world in a whole new way! Thank you!

  18. Love Keri's poem (and love to see cardinals on winter white!) Thanks for sharing it.

  19. Thanks again everyone. We do have holly berries here in Colorado, but sadly, no cardinals. I miss that bright splash of red, especially in the winter snow. Keri has captured much that is wonderful in her poem!

  21. In my experience there is always a lot of resonance in these poetry swaps--so much that it can feel supernatural, in the sense that we are all allowing our super-natural senses to get out there and feel each other! Winter, red DOES become you!

  23. What a beautiful swap that you all shared during the Holiday season. And look at that sense of winter-red - the stark contrast and the beauty that breathes within, like a pulse. :) Red is my mother's favourite color too! :)
