I'm continuing to write haiku and haiku-related poetry this month. See my latest below.
I'm also happy that some of us are sharing on twitter with the hashtag #DigiPoetry, created by Margaret Simon, of Reflections on The Teche. You're welcome to join us. Find the many Poetry Month offerings rounded up by Jama Rattigan at Jama's Alphabet Soup.
For me, busy at school, busy in the rest of my life, writing poetry is a gift, a relief from all the other thinking I do, about my family, school, my home, my car, my garden, the neighbors, the street, appointments, etc. But when I sit down to write, all that falls away, and I am immersed in words. It's a good slice of my life.

Other slices of sunshine are my grandchildren, Carter, Ingrid and Imogene. Today, Ingrid is six. I am reminded of that AA Milne poem about being six. Do you know it?
Now We Are Six - A.A. Milne
This is the ending:
But now I am six, I'm as clever as clever;
So I think I'll be six now for ever and ever.
So I think I'll be six now for ever and ever.
ALL of the poem is here!
That's six year olds, Ingrid too. Happy Birthday, Ingrid!
Baby Ingrid, about one!
Immersing ourselves in words can help make the world around us melt away -- love that reminder! (And I think I need to do more of that...) Your tulips are beautiful. Such a lovely color. I love spring! Happy birthday to Ingrid too! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jennifer, it is a good time in the year!
DeleteBeautiful tulips and beautiful words! I have to agree that sitting down to write gives me such a better perspective when I return to the demands of the day as well.
ReplyDeleteThanks Kay, happy you take some time for writing, too!
DeleteYea, tulips! Yea, being 6! Thanks for starting my day off with a smile, Linda. :)
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome. Have a terrific day, Jane!
DeleteI feel the same about poetry. It has such a centering quality. Those tulips and one-year-old Ingrid have a similar luster. Love the Milne poem (if we could only be..) Happy Birthday Ingrid!
ReplyDeleteHm-m, I was just visiting you, Julieanne. Thanks for the poetic inspiration from your post, and stopping here too.
DeleteSpring blooms and poetry just seem to be made for each other. Happy birthday to Ingrid.
ReplyDeleteThank you, I'll pass the wishes on.
DeleteWhat a lovely webpage you have. On this cloudy spring morning it was a joy to see your tulips and your haiku. I have been writing haiku, on and off, for over a year. I'd like to strike up a relationship with you somehow to encourage me to continue. Please let me know if you're interested,
ReplyDeleteI'll find you, have a full evening ahead, but later!
DeleteI love Ingrid's haiku - there's something about turning six that's special, I think. Love that twinkle in her eyes at one, too!
ReplyDeleteThanks Tara, it is a new start from six on, I think too.
DeleteHow quickly they grow! Happy birthday to Ingrid! And thanks for the beautiful haiku and tulips. Love spring!
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome, Judy, April brings all kinds of wonderful things.
DeleteTulip sunshine. Grandchild sunshine. Happy Birthday to Ingrid!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Terje, I'll tell her about all the extra wishes!
DeleteI like how you describe what happens when you sit down to write poetry. And I love all the sunshine in your life.
ReplyDeleteThanks Lisa, hope April is full of sunshine for you, too!
DeleteWhat a bounty! Wish Ingrid a Happy Birthday! Wish I could be six right along with her - it's such a nice age to be.
ReplyDeleteI got to be with her for a little classroom celebration today. It was such fun, always a pleasure, & to see her with classmates too. Thanks, Donna.
DeleteLinda, I agree that writing (word weaving) is such a pleasurable act that time floats away. Your tulip photo and haiku are great companions to each other. Happy Birthday to Ingrid (as sweet as she is in the photo).
ReplyDeleteThanks, Carol, writing is a time 'away' & that is good, at least for me. I'll pass on your wishes!
DeleteYou are so talented, Linda! Those tulips are gorgeous--like Creamsicles almost and the six-year-old poem just made me grin. What a great memory for you and Ingrid to share. Love your haiku this month!
ReplyDeleteThank you Lee Ann. Yes, I love that Milne poem, too. I'm home now, a happy birthday evening!
DeleteImmersing in poetry, tulips, and those beautiful grandchildren!
ReplyDeleteIndeed! Thanks, Margaret!
DeleteLove love love the photo of your precious grandchild! I liked your words about writing poetry - "writing poetry is a gift, a relief from all the other thinking I do"...and the tulip haiku is a beautiful example of your writing gift!
ReplyDeleteThank you. That early photo is a favorite.
DeleteLove those sunshiny tulips, Linda! And happy sixth birthday to darling Ingrid!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Catherine. I appreciate your words.
DeleteOh Linda, i love the happy sunshiny tulips but even more I adore that AA Milne quote. Happy Birthday to Ingrid!
