For this wonderful month of April, Poetry month, I've made the goal to write haiku and haiku-related poems. It's been rewarding to write something new every day.
I'm also happy that some of us are sharing on twitter with the hashtag #DigiPoetry, created by Margaret Simon, of Reflections on The Teche. You're welcome to join us. Find the many Poetry Month offerings rounded up by Jama Rattigan at Jama's Alphabet Soup.

Most Wednesdays I'm happy to link to Alyson Beecher's Non-Fiction Picture Book Challenge at her blog, Kidlit Frenzy. There are fabulous picture books available about many varied topics, for all ages, too. Here are a couple I read and enjoyed recently.
Much information lies in this book, and it is creatively offered along
with the beautiful illustrations by Emma Stevenson which extend the word
descriptions. When Marilyn writes about the forms, she also tells about the
wide variety of colors that eggs can be. And beside the words are beautifully
artistic examples by Emma Stevenson, both salmon eggs, memorable blue robin
eggs as well as the varied colors of the common murre. Some are
camouflaged, some not. Inforamtion and pictures of the nests that protect
eggs are described, what they look like, where they are found, and how made. It
is a gorgeous non-fiction book for those who want to know all about eggs!
Up in the garden and
Down in the Dirt - written by Kate
Messner & illustrated by Christopher Silas Neal
Each time I read another of Kate Messner’s books, I want to run out to find
more of them. She is a storyteller extraordinaire, and this book about a garden
is so entertaining, I want to run right down to the nearby garden store and
begin. Or I want to go dig in the dirt to discover all those intriguing
creatures “under” and “hiding”, doing their work. The book takes us through the
year, from the first planting and getting ready, to harvest, then eating soup
while everything underneath is curled up under a blanket of snow, sleeping till
spring. Neal’s illustrations are big and bold, with colors fitting the
seasons.
That book Eggs looks fabulous. I must check it out. Your haiku made me smile.
ReplyDeleteEggs is so filled with information for anyone who is interested! Thanks, Kimberley!
DeleteI had to laugh at your robin haiku. We are doing our annual battle with a robin who insists on building its nest just outside our back door. I keep pointing to the lovely lilacs a few feet away, but he does't take the hint. I do want to read Up in the Garden and Down in the Dirt.
ReplyDeleteI can't find where these robins are building, but they visit every morning. Up In The Garden... is wonderful, Kay! Thanks!
DeleteEggs DOES look beautiful. Up in the Garden and Down in the Dirt -- Yay!
ReplyDeleteBoth are very good to enjoy and learn from! Thanks, Teresa!
DeleteEggs reminds me I haven't read Steve Jenkins' latest picture called Egg! And that Kate Messner book and it's companion book is a book I've also been meaning to read!
ReplyDeleteEarl, I don't know about Jenkins book, so thanks for telling me about it. The Messner books are wonderful. Thank you!
DeleteHaiku makes me smile that spring has arrived and winter is but a whisper.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, winter is going to do more than whisper here over the next few days, Carol. We have snow in the forecast! Thanks! Looking forward to your gallery!
DeleteI have not see Eggs, I'll have to look for it.
ReplyDeleteI love the new Kate Messner. It makes me happy every time I read it - I love spring and summer!
Yes, it's a great book, with great info, but happiness too, Michele. Thanks!
DeleteI so look forward to reading Kate Messner's new book. Up and Under Snow was so well done.
ReplyDeleteShe just know how to do them, doesn't she, Kellee? I know when I get one that I'll enjoy every page! Thanks!
DeleteI need both of these books. Thank you for sharing it with everyone Linda.
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome, Alyson. Great NF books available, everywhere it seems!
DeleteI'm with Alyson! I need both of these books! And I love the picture of a robin's private spa!
