Lucky for me, the Summer Swap continues. Started by our host today, Tabatha, it is now fun to get the mail. No longer is it only junk, but continuing lovely surprises. I've received mail from Diane Mayr, shared here, and from Donna Smith, written about here. I'm going to take a break in the next weeks, going to be with family on the beach again, so this time I'm sharing two I received this past week. It's a pleasure to share these, too. Visit Tabatha at The Opposite of Indifference for more poetry sharing.
Recently, I discovered a definition of poetry new to me, but one that especially applies to Jone and Buffy today. "The poet doesn't invent. He listens." ~Jean Cocteau

From Jone MacCulloch, in the throes of moving and family vacations. I'm grateful that she managed a wonderful poem and on a postcard. I love and collect postcards, enjoyed writing with Laura Shovan a few years ago for her postcard poetry challenge.
And from Buffy Silverman, another poem from nature, this time with Buffy's own photos of caterpillars. She wrote that they've grown even bigger since the photo was taken.
Thanks Jone and Buffy for filling my week with poetry!
Linda,
ReplyDeleteI adore that definition of poetry. It is very true. I think of Mary Oliver...her attention to her surrounding that bring her poetry to life. And such wonderful poems you have shared, capturing nature without a need to invent anything. :)
Thank you. Yes, these two poems show wonderful love of nature, agreed!
DeleteTwo wonderful poems to share today! I loved both. Nature certainly provides a wealth of poetic opportunities!
ReplyDeleteThey are lovely captures of two small, beautiful things, aren't they? Thank you, Donna.
DeleteA lovely pair of poems. I love seeing poems paired with photos like this.
ReplyDeleteMe, too, Sally, added images! Thanks.
DeleteSo much good listening going on in these poems! I like those exquisite caterpillar photos. "Nibble" is such a perfect word for those busy little mouths.
ReplyDeleteThey work hard for the nourishment, and eat so much. I like that Buffy can watch, too. Thanks, Tabatha.
DeleteThanks for sharing my caterpillars, Linda! And I enjoyed Jone's lizard, living "under scorching sun." Truly a treasure that some treasure hunters miss!
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome, Buffy. I enjoyed sharing, and of course, I enjoyed the receiving! Thank you!
DeleteWhat lovely gifts, and that Jean Cocteau quote too! I'm not ready for summer to nibble to an end.
ReplyDeleteI think our August is giving us some more of summer, Michelle. It's hot here! I'm glad you enjoyed my gifts. Me, too!
DeleteThanks for sharing your swaps and the quote. All perfectly wonderful!
ReplyDeleteIsn't it interesting that your Poetry Friday friends are sending you critter poems? Great job on both. It was fun to read the poem/image pairs.
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful gifts! I love the quote, just wrote it in my notebook as well as the definition of a shadorma.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the beach and the grandkids! We'll see you when you return.
Isn't it wonderful to have such a grand celebration of poem swapping in the summer, Linda. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDelete"The poet doesn't invent. He listens." ~Jean Cocteau Linda, I just have to capture this quote since my OLW is listen. If you submit a poem/photo for Summer Splashings, I would love to have this quote you found on top of it as a lead in.
