Poetry Friday, that one before the ghouls and ghosts convene, is hosted by Jone Macullough at her blog, Check It Out. |
I hope you all have a Happy Halloween. I've had a lot of fun driving my granddaughters down special streets that are going wild with the decorating. Each one is unique in style; some feel that the creepier the better, and others choose the happy and fun Charlie Brown approach. It's going to be a busy Saturday night.
However, this time of year is also one to celebrate every day as the tree leaves change and their colors shine. I've taken so many pictures, and managed one that sparked a poem.
autumn leaves flutter,
promise spring butterflies -
the after-winter show

Linda, first of all I love your Poetry Friday sign. It is so festive. What a beautiful blanket of leaves you are showing today. I like the way you have the leaves fluttering to match your poem. What a nice association to the seasons your poem brings. May I place this one in Autumn's Palette?
ReplyDeleteYes, Carol, I thought that I might send it to you. I was excited to 'catch' these leaves in the picture, thus the poem. Thank you!
DeleteLinda, I look forward to receiving this poem and photo combo for the gallery. Thank you.
DeleteI love that you got that picture. I've wanted to capture one like that, but just haven't been able to. The comparison to summer's butterflies is perfect!
ReplyDeleteI took a bunch of pictures & finally caught them, Donna. Thanks!
DeleteThe leaves themselves look like butterflies. Enjoy your Halloween with the grandchildren, Linda!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Laura, they are very excited of course.
DeleteNot only does that falling leaf remind me of a butterfly, but it also reminds me of a dove or angel, giving the whole thing a spiritual slant. Beautiful work, as always, Linda.
ReplyDeleteLove that you imagined other things, too, Michelle. Thank you!
Delete"Poetry in Motion"--remember that old song? That title perfectly describes your poem. Butterflies are my absolute favorite. Thank you for giving me a way to see them in the Fall. .God bless you!
ReplyDeleteThanks, I didn't think of it until I really looked at the picture, then "saw" that butterfly.
DeleteLovely picture. I never thought of leaves as fluttering butterflies, but now I'm seeing a field of them falling out my window!
ReplyDeleteIt's quiet today, so no flutters, but they'll be back I'm sure. Thanks, Buffy.
DeleteI love the sense of optimism you convey in your poem, Linda. Spring butterflies as the "after-winter show". You captured an amazing pre-winter show with this photo. Gorgeous. =)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Bridget, didn't think of it as so positive, but you're right, it is. Life, & seasons, march on!
DeleteI love how you captured the motion of the leaves...both in your photo and your poem!
ReplyDeleteThanks Mary Lee, it took many pics to capture that movement. Maybe if I had a better camera? I was finally pleased though.
DeleteIt's not easy to get a shot that freezes the action of falling leaves. I have a photo that looks like falling leaves, but that's only because the leaves had become caught in a spider's web!
ReplyDeleteYes, as you read in the comments above, it took a lot of shots to get one. Thanks, Diane. Can you see the web in your picture?
DeleteA perfect poem for a perfect shot. That takes patience, my friend - I settled for a video of leaves in action the other week.
ReplyDeleteThanks Tara, but I loved the "sound" of your video!
DeleteWow, what a gorgeous photo, and a perfect poem to go with it! I love the comparison of fluttering leaves to spring butterflies. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jama, fun to do because of the picture!
DeleteI love the movement in your photo, Linda, and the crisp simplicity of your poem. Both are stunning!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Becky, happy you enjoyed both.
DeleteI love that this has three seasons in it. We were both writing leaf haiku, as you pointed out on my blog!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Ruth. Yes, it is fun that we both wrote about leaves.
DeleteOur leaves have been gorgeous this year, too. The one you captured in midflight really does look like a butterfly, and I love the imagery in your poem! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Catherine. We're back in the warm times again, supposed to be 70 tomorrow. It was so gorgeous today, breeze blowing leaves, trick or treaters having a great time.
DeleteAutumn leaves to spring butterflies, the seasons change. Your image is beautiful, too. Art and poetry make a perfect match. Happy Fall!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Margaret. Our fall has been quite lovely, but then we say that every year! Happy November to you!
DeleteVery nice, Linda - good use of internal rhyme.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Matt, autumn has been especially inviting for writing this year.
