I'm celebrating each Saturday or Sunday with Ruth Ayres at Discover Play Build. Come join in to share your own special celebrations.
For those of you who returned to your classrooms this week, I hope it was a good time back, re-uniting, making new plans for learning, enjoying the community all over again. I missed the good part, but must say I didn't miss the early rising/getting out the door at 7am. I am enjoying the quiet being at home/after Christmas/New Year start. Most Christmas things are put away, but I keep out what we used to call our kitchen tree. It sat on a shelf in the kitchen at my old house. It will stay until February hearts take its place.
It was a good week of quiet celebrations. One of which I don't have a photo of is that I've been invited to join a book group by a former colleague, some other former colleagues and some new people, too. It was a wonderful evening taking time to talk about a book and listen to others share their ideas, too. I will love this time.I was at school this week for a short while, and had the pleasure of seeing a former student, now nearly finished with college! What a pleasure it was to hear her enthusiasm with her passions, and she spoke of our time together as still under-pinning her learning. It made me feel so good.
Here are a few photos of good things to celebrate during this past week!
Another sky picture-people flying home or back to work on Monday when I picked up Ingrid. We went for ice cream! |
Imi visits on Wednesday. We read lots of books! |
And made Gak! Awesome chemistry! |
A new discovery on a shelf at the bookstore. |
And a new book about courage discovered too! |
Snowed all day yesterday. This is the evening's sight. |
the 'kitchen tree' |
Something in the mail that will give me smiles all year long. I've wanted to subscribe to The New Yorker for a long time, sometimes I bought one, but now I will find time to read them! |
Khahil Gibran
I'm loving your life, Linda. I leave a tree up also--my Hawkeye tree. I'm sure it's my turning it on every game day is the reason they win :)
ReplyDeleteLove it, hearing that you have a 'talisman' tree for those Hawkeyes! Thanks, Deb.
DeleteLinda, Kahlil Gibran was a favorite way back when so thank you for the quote that sparks my day. Your kitchen tree is a lovely reminder of all the memories stored in our hearts. Have a great day.
ReplyDeleteI still love the wisdom of Gibran, and also remember discovering him when I was in high school. His words opened new ideas for me. Thanks, Carol.
DeleteWhat a good post, Linda! Are you leaving your kitchen tree up all year? I think that would be fun. Your granddaughters could help you come up with ideas. I AM HENRY FINCH is a book unfamiliar to me, but I like the cover thumbprint art. It reminds me of Ed Emberley's books. Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteYes! It is similar to those drawing books by Ed Emberley. We had so many & I think I've left them for teachers at school. Enjoy Henry Finch, an interesting story! Thanks Jane, and have a good weekend yourself, keeping warm too!
DeleteI am all for awesome chemistry, and books of course, always. I read your words, look at the pics and I can feel you smiling.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Terje. I appreciate the thought!
DeleteReading your writing about your life is like listening to a comforting song, snuggled in a warm sweater while drinking a cup of tea with honey and lemon. It makes me happy to know that you are in the world.
ReplyDeleteAw, thank you, Bernadette. I'm glad to share a bit of comfort to anyone who wants it.
DeleteBeautiful writing Bernadette and I feel much the same about Linda and her posts. :)
DeleteThank you for this, too, Crystal. Comments are like a big hug.
DeleteI adore hearing about your times with Imi - really special for both of you. That kitchen tree makes me smile, too - I remember many a slice about it from years past.
ReplyDeleteIt is fun with Imi, ready for more 'growing up' things now that she's four. I keep adding a few things to the tree, & it's almost as important as our Christmas tree, Tara. Funny how things evolve! Thanks!
DeleteSo many special moments! Gak is sooo fun.
ReplyDeleteEyes widen with that Gak when it starts to change. I love doing it with the girls! Thanks, Crystal!
DeleteI love that snowy yard in the evening! Adorable little reader as always and love the kitchen tree!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Carrie. This time was a nice snow, just very cold. Ingrid & Imi both like books, but Imi is crazy about them, hides them under the covers!
DeleteLove that quote by Kahlil Gibran! He's one of my favorites!!! And I am honestly so jealous of the snow you have. Not a flake here in Virginia!! Always love your celebrations, Linda!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Michelle, the quote seemed so apt for this week. Wishing you a "little bit" of snow!
DeleteGlad you had a pleasant week. I love, love, love my book club- we have been meeting for almost 20 years now and it's one of my favorite things every month. Maybe I will try to do something with your terrific Kahlil Gibran quote for them for Valentine's Day. Hmmmm.
ReplyDeleteOh, that quote would be so perfect, Carol. I'm doubly glad I posted it now. When I hear about book clubs together as you describe, I am jealous. A few of us tried at school a few years ago, but two moved away & it just didn't work well. I loved the feeling of this group, special former colleagues, & had a great time with them. Thanks, we'll talk soon!
DeleteYou and Imi had a wonderful play date this week. You are such an awesome grandma, Linda!!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jennifer, always fun to "play" with Imi!
DeleteWonderful celebrations! I love the kitchen tree... what a great idea. :-) Off to go check out I am Henry Finch... :-)
ReplyDeleteThank you! Henry is a character we might see more of!
DeleteSo fun to see your pics from the week. Happy that you found a book club. I love that Imi hides books under the covers! The snowy pic was beautiful. Stay warm and enjoy the rest of the weekend!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Ramona, I feel lucky about the book club. It will be such fun. Happy Sunday to you!
DeleteLinda,
ReplyDeleteI love your kitchen tree. I always leave a little bit of Christmas out all year. Just because. And, you will LOVE the New Yorker subscription. I have a long history of loving that magazine. I gave up my subscription went I started teaching 12 years ago. This year, I looked at that subscription offer and held on to it thinking, maybe. Still thinking.... Enjoy!
I'm already loving the New Yorkers, & understand why you gave yours up. There's just no time for extras when you teach. Thanks, Julieanne!
DeleteSometimes images says it all. I love how you get so involved with your grandchildren; Gak is so much fun. Enjoy the snow!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Margaret. As long as we can, I will always spend time with the grandkids. I'm sorry that Carter is far away but we are managing some good times together, too, just in big spurts!
