One of the delights several times a year is the Poetry Swap created by Tabatha Yeatts, at The Opposite of Indifference. See the sidebar for the wonderful image Tabatha created for us this summer. I haven't participated since last summer, but am happy to look in my mailbox again to find something special, not only junk mail!
This time, my surprise is from Brenda Harsham at Friendly Fairy Tales who sent a beautiful postcard with an original watercolor and poem, and a sweet note. She must know I'm going to the beach very soon, and this made me want the time to fly even more so I can be there!

I love those "clamshell clouds", know what I'll be looking for when I'm at the beach. Thanks again, Brenda.
I want to share one more thing because Independence Day is next week. This past Wednesday I shared a new book that's a beautifully poetic tribute to the American Flag by Sarvender Naberhaus, illustrated by Kadir Nelson. The post is here.
Enjoy your holiday if you are celebrating either the US Independence Day next Tuesday or Canada Day tomorrow (150 years)!
Linda, the offering from Brenda is a great combination of art and poetry, a lovely image poem. I know that you are getting excited about going to the beach so have a wonderful time and keep looking for those clamshell clouds.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Carol, Brenda started the anticipation just perfectly! Time to begin laying out all the stuff.
DeleteEnjoy your vacation, Linda.
DeleteThanks, Linda. We've been packing for a family wedding. Sunscreen. Swimsuits. Beach towels. Oh, yes, and dress clothes, a pressie, rain gear. It's not the beach, but that fission of summer adventure has arrived. The hotel has a pool! I hope your beach trip is fabulous.
ReplyDeleteAnd thank you, too, Brenda. I love the card, just right for framing! Your list, except for dress clothes, sounds close to mine. We do dress up a little sometimes, but not too fancy! Enjoy this special celebration!
DeleteOh, crud! How did I miss this?
ReplyDeleteWhat beach will you be going to?
We stay at a house on Captive Island, Donna. It's our 5th year!
DeleteI love the clamshell clouds, too! The poem and the book are wonderful shares this week, Linda!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Kiesha, yes, I agree!

ReplyDeleteI saw some of the posts about All-Write, have lovely memories of being there and glad you all had a great time. Maybe someday I'll come back just to see everyone! Thanks, Leigh Anne.
DeleteBrenda is a special poetry friend...she finds and shares beauty wherever she goes!
ReplyDeleteAnd, I want that book! I have been seeing reference to Blue Sky, White Stars for a few weeks now and I need to get my hands on it. Thanks for the rec. Consider it taken by me!
I know you will love the book, LInda. It is wonderful, and like Brenda's poetry, something else to savor. Thanks!
DeleteNo clamshell clouds today in the PNW but blue sky. Love Brenda's work. Enjoy the beach.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jone. We have grey clouds and cool today. I intend to love them because the heat is coming back!
DeleteBrenda's poetry is magical, and this haiku captures the essence of the beach perfectly. Thank you for reminding us of Blue Sky, White Stars. It looks like a must-have. Have a wonderful time at the beach!
ReplyDeleteIt's quite wonderful what a few words can show us, isn't it? Enjoy Blue Sky, White Stars, too, and Happy Independence Day!
DeleteOh, what fun it is to discover such a thoughtful surprise in your mailbox, carefully crafted with such love and talent! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Jane, it was very nice to receive.
DeleteWhat a fun poem and watercolor! Clamshell clouds makes me smile--and those waves do seem to taunt.
ReplyDeleteWe had a bit of a storm last year and those waves did 'taunt' and "intimidate' too! Thanks, Buffy, hoping for clamshell clouds every day!
DeleteThe watercolor and the poem make me yearn for the beach, but we are headed elsewhere on our vacation this year. Enjoy your trip to the waves.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Kay. Wherever one lands, vacations are wonderful!
DeleteWhat a lively, lovely poem and painting. It calls out "summer!" Have fun on your beach holiday, Linda.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the wishes, Violet. Love that idea of "calling out summer".
DeleteI too love the clamshell clouds - and the postcard. How beautiful! And not at all what I'd have expected from the garden fairy nymph! #dabblestoesinsandyshore Splash and dash for me, too, Linda. It's a bit too nippy-cold for swimming at the moment, over here!
ReplyDeleteYes, I imagine it is a bit too nippy for a swim there, Kat. But I love when you share your walks no matter the weather. Thanks!
DeleteClamshell clouds indeed! I'm longing for a beach too, but I don't see any hope of that in my future! :(((( I love the poetry swap logo for this season! Seems like such a fun thing!
ReplyDeleteI hope you'll try the swap sometime, Carol. It really is fun! Hope the beach comes your way someday!
DeleteAw, love that poem and watercolor. I need to try the swap someday! Have fun at the beach, and thanks for sharing. I am seeing this book buzzed a lot. Need to check it out!
ReplyDeleteI'd love you to do the swap, Laura, but remember you recently said you were doing too much! Yes, the book is well worth finding! Happy Independence Day!
DeleteIt's so interesting that you received a piece of writing right when you need it, it's like matching readers to books. Enjoy your time at the beach!
ReplyDeleteYes, it is perfect timing! Thanks, Mandy.
DeleteI'm enjoying all the summer swaps ALMOST as much as you are! Love Blue Sky White Stars...gorgeous word+visual images.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear you like this book, Mary Lee. And the summer swaps are like hugs in the mail. Thank you!
DeleteNice! I like those clamshell clouds too, and thinking about what they might hold. Tu parles tres bien francais, mais pourquoi? Je suis heureuse que mon francais commence a marcher encore!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the beach!
Merci pour le commentaire. Mon Français est a peu lent, mais amusement. Hope your trip was wonderful Heidi, and yes, I will look for those special clouds!
DeleteHurray for the poem swap! Hurray for the BEACH! I hope you see all kinds of cloud pictures on your journey!
