Some Baskets Full - Not All

Celebrating with Ruth Ayres at Discover, Play, Build, and linking with others who share, too. I'm always grateful to Ruth for our weekly celebrations together.

I haven't shared for a couple of weeks. My life is good, all things filling my days are good, and a week from today I'll be at the beach! A favorite thing to celebrate there, and all the rest of the year. I wish everyone a good holiday this Independence Day, one in which to celebrate our wonderful country.
Here are some pictures that show some of what's been going on, library book sale finds, fun with the grand-girls, flowers, of course, my favorite "gargoyle" at the airport and sky!

At the museum, they found a perfect tree to climb!
Finally a stormy sky earlier in the week, and enough rain to call it more
than a sprinkle.
But, and I think you might have suspected a but, I've been reading and today finished Hillbilly Elegy by J. D. Vance, and I continue to watch the news, do what calling and signing my name that I can, and while it's wonderful to read what Vance described that he grew up with and that he found ways to celebrate the parts that helped him "move out", it's also hard to realize that there are those families still in deep struggles, still needing help. I celebrate that I am able to help in various ways, yet I feel impatient.  That's it. I am fine, but. . .

  1. I feel that impatience, too, Linda - and also a growing sense of dread. This too will pass, and I have to believe that good will triumph over evil...but it is emotionally exhausting to keep up with the news and know that so much of what I believe in is under threat. But..those grand girls! Love your pictures of them.

  2. I am drawn to your picture of the books for two reasons. One, I love old books and have several displayed in my classroom and tucked away here at home. I came across some original prints of Little Golden books. I was thrilled with I researched and found the A in the binding. The other reason is the quilt in that picture! I am also a quilt lover. My quilting days are postponed for now, but maybe when I retire I can get the needles back out...if my eyesight will cooperate! Happy Sunday and Happy 4th!

    1. I love those older books, too, Leigh Anne, and sold many of my Golden books in my estate sale, just kept a few. I loved finding these. As for the quilt, I do have many, & use them for tablecloths, love seeing them on my table, remembering my family & my husband's family who created them. I have never quilted, but love them. I hope you get back to it someday! Happy Holiday to you, too!

  3. I was at our major's inauguration last night and the words spoken there gave me hope. We are a sanctuary city and are proud of it. It gave me hope that our elected city officials reflect the diversity of our population. Interestingly as the mayor began to speak, a protester started shouting, "Black Lives Matter." This gave me hope too. Protests exist even in what seems to be a good situation.

On another note, enjoy the beach and your lovely family. Beach time and family time are a great combination.

    1. I'm proud of all that California does to combat the harsher political stances happening, and proud that Colorado, and Denver, too are sanctuaries. Thanks for sharing this good story, Julieanne, and for the wishes!

  4. Oh, Linda, my heart is heavy too! I need to do more of what you're doing. Our book club is reading Hillbilly Elegy. I'm about a third of the way in. I'm looking forward to the discussion. This meeting includes spouses and other friends, so it's an interesting one.
I saw that you'll be in Missouri during the eclipse. And I love the climbing tree and pics of the girls. Enjoy your time at the beach!

    1. Wow, I hope perhaps you will PM me some of your book conversation. I suggest that the next memoir be Jeannette Walls' The Glass Castle if you haven't already read it! Yes, Sarah, the girls & I are going to my brother's for the eclipse. He is right in the perfect path! Thanks for the wishes, my friend!

    2. What a cool gargoyle in the airport. Oh how I love Walls' memoirs--especially Half-Broke Horses. I trust you are enjoying Captiva.

  5. Your writing reminds me of how I am feeling... "fine, but..." ... going about the day, the celebrations of wonderful things... and also feeling a background of dread... and hope.

  6. Happy 4th of July to you, Linda. I hope you are resting and enjoying the beach with your grandgirls. They certainly look like they are having fun in the photo. Gargoyles are so interesting and yours is a special one as it greets people at the airport.
