Celebrating Courage

Celebrating today with Ruth Ayres and others who share.

It was a bookish kind of week. Actually, I guess most are! I helped a friend choose many used books at the bookstore to finish decorating her house for listing on a 'vacation' site. It was fun! We chose books that might be interesting for someone from out of town, short stories that they might enjoy reading just one, and some 'just right' picture books for kids visiting, too. The grand girls came on Tuesday together and we made a first stop at the library to choose a few books they wanted. Imogene found two books she already knew from school: Here Comes Teacher Cat and Niko Draws A Feeling. Ingrid is very into graphic novels and found a short one she had time to read in the brief time they were with me: The Amazing Crafty Cat, full of ideas for projects! I always celebrate books!

But today, I'm celebrating courage. I had cataract surgery Thursday morning. My daughter took me and spent the rest of the day and night, and I had the first post-op Friday am. Perhaps I've never admitted it, but I don't like being ill at all. Yes, I do all the required appointments, but I've put this off for a couple of years. It still wasn't very bad, I could have waited again, yet I knew it was a needed thing and the doctor said it would be better earlier. So I gritted my teeth and planned it. And it's over, and I'm celebrating. I have some things to do this week like drops, etc. I will have more post-op appointments. It is already improving. I'm elated that it's behind me instead of in front of me. Whew! Celebrating feels very good indeed!
No matter when I'm always imagining. I
don't know what this machine is for, but
took a picture because it reminded me
of R2D2, thought it might just wake
up and start beeping at me!

  1. “Bookish week”- Love that! Glad the surgery is behind you and you are already seeing improvement. And that machine... do we really want to know what it’s for?

    1. Ha! I was in a bit of a fog, so didn't even ask what it was for! Those tiny rooms were "filled" with all sorts of gadgets! Thanks, Diane, I'm glad all is "behind' too!

  2. Having surgery behind you is certainly something to celebrate. My husband had his eyes done a few summers ago and now he brags about his bionic vision. You will be seeing well in a short time. Will you have the other one done?

    1. Thanks for sharing the good news from your husband, Margaret. No, the other eye is fine, just this one needed change! And yes, I chose a "near" lens, so guess I'll have bionic visions, too! Ha! Didn't think of that!

  3. Eye surgeries - never easy to take that step, even when needed. Glad this is behind you and wishes for a quick recovery. Fun that you snapped a pic of your little R2D2 companion. And kudos for your bookish week. I love picturing your grand girls and their books in your cozy home.

    1. Thanks, Crystal, isn't that tiny machine like R2D2's cousin? I loved it too!

  5. You are courageous indeed, Linda! I'm glad you are on the mend. I'm celebrating your feeling of relief - I know what it is like to put things off, but when I finally deal with whatever it is (usually calling an office here in Switzerland and having to speak German) I feel such a sense of relief. =)

    1. Thanks, Bridget. It's nice that you shared, too. Sometimes I feel silly to feel this way, so it's good to know others do, too!

  8. I'm celebrating your courage too, Linda! My husband finally had cataract surgery early last year after waiting too long... longer than you did, I'm sure. He's a changed man for having done it, though. His whole outlook brightened along with his eyesight.

    1. Thanks, Michelle, and yes, I suspect I didn't wait so long, but I did put it off a while. I'm glad to know that your husband is pleased, too. Things are better today, and each day.

  10. Linda, I am so happy that the surgery is behind you and now you can recuperate. I hear that eyesight is better after cataract surgery. I hope that is the case in your life. I thought the piece about using books to liven up a house for a showing was a great idea. Stay well.

    1. The house is going to be one of those on airbnb, Carol, books for vacationers! Yes, my vision is better. I didn't wait too long, so things from that eye just seem brighter! Thanks, sorry I missed your own PF!
