April is #NPM18 - National Poetry Month.
There is not a particle of life which does not bear poetry within it. - Gustave Flaubert
Last Friday, when I shared Amy Ludwig VanDerwater's new book, With My Hands: Poems for Making Things. Amy and Clarion HMH offered to send a copy of this new book to a lucky commenter of that post! Here's the picture of my drawing and the lucky winner!
Congratulations, Buffy Silverman - send me your address and I'll pass it on! |
And, see what many are doing for Poetry Month, by looking HERE at Jama Rattigan's post at Jama's Alphabet Soup.
My goal for Poetry Month: A haiku diary that may include other forms related to haiku, like haibun, haiga. monoku or renga. My first poem speaks of why I am handwriting the poems.

Poem Twelve
Here is Poem Thirteen:
Here’s a second poem gift to unwrap, meant for that special person:
Today, We’re all “Traveling The Blue Road” "World Make Way"
“All The World’s A Stage” Today
for Lee Bennett Hopkins
His books are “Jumping Off Library Shelves”
because he now can shout “I Am The Book”!
Over 100 books reveal his mantra:
“Don’t You Turn Back” with “Me! A Book of Poems”.
“Side by Side” with Lee includes loads of “Small Talk” with“Best Friends”,
Happily, we all discover his “Wonderful Words” in “Days to Celebrate”,
“Sing Hey for Christmas Day”, “Good Morning To You, Valentine”,
“Beat The Drum, Independence Day Has Come”, “Hannukah Lights” and
“Ragged Shadows: Poems of Halloween Night.”
As we celebrate, there are no worries either about being fed well
with “Potato Chips and A Slice of the Moon”--Yum!
We are often “Munching” on “Pterodactyls and Pizza”
as we sing a “Lullaby and Kisses Sweet” song together
while learning about “America at War”, “Nasty Bugs”,
“Pups, Dogs, Foxes, and Wolves”, plus so many “People From Mother Goose”.
I could continue with more "Faces and Places", even with some "City Talk"
but will stop and say "Time to Shout: [with] Poems for you".
From “Home to Me” to Lee,
Happy Birthday!
What a delightful way to celebrate so many LBH titles! And congratulations to Buffy for winning your drawing.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Alice. This was a joy to do!
DeleteLove the happy rumbling of all those books coming together in your poems to celebrate LBH's birthday! Delightful poems!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Ramona. We are lucky there are so many titles to choose from!
DeleteA colorful post beaming with wonderful books featured in your poem for Lee! Great to have so many of his books gathered here in one spot, thanks Linda!
ReplyDeleteIt's wonderful to create this celebration, isn't it? Thanks, Michelle.
DeleteWhee! This poem weaving titles in colors of the rainbow holds so much joy!
ReplyDeleteA terrific treat!. Love.
Thanks, Jan. Rainbow birthdays are the best!
DeleteSuch wonderful gifts to bring to the party, LInda. Your last poem is a creative way to combine all the goodness Lee brings to the world in bright birthday colors.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Carol, these books had to come along, too, right?
DeleteHoly cow, Linda! What a clever tribute to Lee! Wondering how you decided which books to choose! He has so many great ones! And I love the idea of "happy rumbling!"
ReplyDeleteThanks, Carol. I found the list and started putting the story together, much fun to do and a wealth of material to choose from made it easy!
DeleteSuch a joyous and clever poem, Linda!! Just perfect to celebrate Lee's birthday. Love it!!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jama! What a wonderful Poetry Friday today!
DeleteLove the way you wove together the titles with color and fun. Was happy to sample your haiku, too.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Brenda, birthdays are meant to be celebrated with as much goodness as possible. I love those "special" days!
DeleteI adore both your gift poem and your Lee Bennett Hopkins tribute one as well. I have been thinking about birthday poems as I try to get a sewing project finished for my sister. I'm not sure if a poem would have been easier or not!
ReplyDeleteAs you've been writing all this month, I think you would create a wonderful birthday poem, Cheriee. That and the sewing project will be grand. Thanks!
DeleteI'm really enjoying reading your daily haiku, including today's "happy rumbling"! Your poetic gift is a clever compilation!
ReplyDeleteThanks, JoAnn, the "daily diary" has been nice to do, and to write for Lee was a special time.
DeleteThank you, thank you--looking forward to having Amy's treasure in my hands! You and Catherine are title twins today. Very clever!
ReplyDeleteYes, we are, I know! Catherine's post was one of the first I read. Ramona did a similar one, too. Enjoy that wonderful book, Buffy!
DeleteThat is AWESOME! Lee has so many collections and anthologies and books that you had a wonderful assortment to choose from. Hooray for Buffy--she will adore Amy's new book!
ReplyDeleteYes, I liked doing a giveaway, many wonderful surprises today! Thanks, Laura.
DeleteI love the idea of growing haiku on lined pages, Linda. (They are like little flower buds, aren't they?) And even more so that you're using steno books—my favorite kind of pad. With Lee's vast number of collections, it's amazing that you and others can all find unique poems!
ReplyDeleteYes, Lee's collection titles made my writing both fun and easy. And steno books are a favorite. I like doing it in this way this month. Thanks, Michelle.
DeleteI love, love, love your tribute to Lee. I can't think of a better gift than to promote his books. Because I teach high school, I feel out of the Lee loop, but I'm going to catch up and enlist my media specialist to help me. Bravo!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Glenda. Of course you should delve into Lee's books. There are those that are just great for high school, too.
DeleteLooks like you "Found" the perfect way to celebrate Lee's birthday! ;)
ReplyDeleteHa! yes I guess I did. Thanks, Matt!
DeleteHow clever! What a fabulous way to celebrate Lee and some of his books!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Kay, I really enjoyed the writing!
DeleteWow.
ReplyDeleteWOW
WOWOWOWOW!
This poem and collection of titles is a keeper. I'm pinning this to my pinterest page. Well done, Linda. You are always and impressive writer. But, you've outdone yourself with this gift for Lee. Take a bow, Lady!
This has been lots of fun, Linda, & I actually discovered some other titles that I've ordered. It's become a celebration for all of us, hasn't it? Thank you!
DeleteHuzzah! What a wealth of titles, what a rich poem!
ReplyDeleteThank you. I had the easy time with so many titles to choose from!
DeleteI'm loving your old-school scribed poems. Refreshing! And what a lovely, tribute-y creation you crafted for the birthday boy. Well done! -- Christie @ https://wonderingandwondering.wordpress.com/
ReplyDeleteThanks, Christie. The hand writing has been fun to do.
DeleteWe were on the same wavelength, Linda! I like that you wove the titles into longer sentences. Your poem makes a bit more sense. It was a fun project for a well deserved birthday celebration!
ReplyDeleteThanks, I enjoyed yours and everyone's for Lee. Great fun!
DeleteLots to celebrate this month, not the least of which is your amazing poem for LBH's birthday. Old school hand written poems are my favorite (and how I write my first drafts). Love reading your work, Linda. =)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Bridget. Takes time to handwrite, but it slows me down, a good thing!
