Poetry Friday - A Little Time

Rebecca Herzog at Sloth Reads hosts Poetry Friday today, with a call to celebrating National Goof Off Day! Because of Rebecca's blog title, it feels fitting that she would both know about and make a call for, well, inaction on today's Poetry Friday. No offense intended to sloths, really. I know they act, albeit.very.slowly. I also know that 'goofing off' doesn't always mean slowing down, but to me, this time, it did. Thanks for hosting, Rebecca!

What Can Be

This morning hour, while goofing off,
I strolled throughout my yard,
poking here and looking down
to find the spring green all around.
Lily blades reached for the sun,
alas, their green, the only one,
but then a tiny ant crawled by
another followed, I said “hi”
I pulled leaf litter off a bed,
with a closer look, saw one thing red,
felt a flutter, looked around –
a ladybug, they’re back in town!
It isn’t often that I take more
than a casual glance this time of year.
Today I’ve learned to slow and go.
I’m glad goof-offing day is here.

  4. Wonderful poem, made me smile!! Love that the ladybugs are back in town. I think we all need to practice the fine art of goofing off every now and then, despite what society seems to dictate.

    1. Perhaps in a few weeks, the bees! I was so excited to welcome that ladybug! Thanks, Ramona.

    2. The bees are already here. Jack loves to smell the flowers, but now we have to watch for the bees. I used to tell my kids they won't bother you unless you bother them. But then I got stung while walking and minding my own business (maybe I was into their business without realizing it).

    3. Yes, it can happen & one never knows how. And yes, Jack could get stung while smelling those blooms. Glad to hear your bees have arrived!

  8. That last line is so fun! I'm looking forward to some goof-offing time in my garden this week. I hope it gets warm enough to lift leaf litter (say that five times fast) and find buggy friends!

    1. We have more warming coming & it rained a lot last night, so things should be popping up! I may wait a couple more weeks to clean it all off, but it's nearly time to do some. Enjoy your time outside, too, Mary Lee!

  13. Loved the discoveries coming one after another in your poem Linda, and then the
"felt a flutter, looked around –
a ladybug, they’re back in town!"
I'll keep my eye out for them…
I've been watching my new little peach tree to see if new buds have come but I can't tell yet, have to wait and see.
