I had horses growing up and your poem takes me right back to the sweetness of that time. I loved, loved, loved everything about the barn- the sights, the feel, the that smell (my mother hated it and made me undress in the garage!) You capture it so perfectly in these few lines.
ReplyDeleteI love that scent, too, nothing like it! Some days I wish I was on a farm with horses. It's a best memory! Thanks, Carol.
DeleteI grew up in a small town, without horses, but your poem makes me melancholy for not knowing their comfort.
ReplyDeleteIt is a wonderful relationship for sure. I was happy to write about it.
DeleteYou had your own pony? Love "nuzzle with a nicker". This poem reminds me of seeing two horses right outside our motel window in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. There's nothing like a horse's friendly nicker. . .
ReplyDeleteYes, I had a pony growing up, then the kids and I rode on Arab mare for a long time until I went back to work full time, a special memory. Thanks, Jama!
Delete"nuzzle with a nicker" - Oh! Our kids went to horse camp for years, and I worked in the kitchen so they could... What a delightful memory you've shared and another you've brought up for me. I wrote about an animal smell for tomorrow just a bit ago - same wavelength. xxxx
ReplyDeleteAh, fun to hear that another 'smell' is coming, Amy. I grew up riding, then as I wrote above, we kept a horse for years, which really ended up "mine". I did love her! Thanks!
DeleteAwww. Sweet. “Nuzzle with a nicker”—perfection
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jane!
