Poetry Friday - Glad Tidings

Elizabeth Steinglass hosts today at her blog here, sharing a poem about a favorite word. I imagine you may not be able to guess what it is! Be sure to check it out!

Whatever you celebrate, or whether you do not, I'm wishing you a lovely time from here to the new year's end, and joy in the solstice welcoming of winter, too. Here's a part of a quote I love from Charles Dickens:

Reflect upon your present blessings, of which every man has many, not on your past misfortunes, of which all man have some. Fill your glasses again, with a merry face and contented heart.

Happiest of New Year's to you all for 2020, a new decade!

I have been writing alongside a group each day with the hashtags shown in the picture below, sometimes messing up (like #navember instead of #natember). Here is one that captured my time yesterday with my youngest granddaughter, Imogene! I also seem to have read a lot about trees lately. If you haven't read Richard Powers' The Overstory, please take a look. It's quite an amazing book.

On a strange note, I have been struggling to fix a blog problem which is preventing me from commenting on certain blogs, including my own. Still trying to find a fix. All else seems okay, just may have to work some from my IPad.

  5. Love the Dickens' quote. Thanks for sharing! And the image of the wiggling tree is terrific!
Sorry about your commenting woes. How frustrating! Have you tried a different browser? Or signing out of Blogger, closing the window, than signing back in?
I wish you and your family a blessed holiday season and a wonderful 2020!

  6. Thank you, everyone. Decorating the tree with someone, and starting with the angel is special to me. I am happy that Imi was there to help. As for the blogger problem, I tried everything, Carmela, on Safari. Can't seem to make it work, so I've switched to Chrome, & it is working! Tech is a challenge sometimes!

  9. I love the emotion of the tree which must mirror Imi's! (and I bet there was a wiggle of joy in grandma's heart, too!)

  10. What a delightful haiku you wrote, Linda. My treetop is looking for some loving care as it is tilting to one side from being center stage without its fixings. Your angel sings of joy. Thanks for prompting me to get to my tree decorating. Autumn decorations are still waiting to be put away because of our busy schedule after the return from our Hotel Hershey trip with family over the Thanksgiving holiday.

  11. Love, love, love this haiku. Our treetop is an angel too and she got new hair (compliments of daughter's crafty friend) this past year. Guess that's okay to need a bit of redo when you've been at your post for more than 25 years!

  12. Thanks, Kat, Mary Lee, Carol, and Ramona. What fun to imagine all the joy, from the tree to Imi to me. Ramona, Arvie & I bought this angel so long ago at a craft fair, before children, so it must be about 50 years old by now. So far, it's holding up! Carol, the tree isn't finished yet. This time of year I definitely need more hours in the day!

  13. Such a sweet poem you wrote about Imi and the tree angel! Thank you for your wishes. I am now trying to get my house back to some semblance of normalcy, so didn't post this week. Maybe next? Anyway... my best to you and yours for a lovely holiday and the year ahead.

  19. Your angel reminds me of the pics of your granddaughter Imi, and I too love it's wiggle! She seems like a very spirited angel. Thanks for sharing the Dickens quote, it makes me think about all the street people I see downtown in Chicago–how they are getting along in this cold, and how fortunate I am to have a warm home. Thanks Linda!

    1. Yes, we need to know that we are fortunate and help others as much as we can. Thanks, Michelle. I'm glad to have captured Imi's and my special time.
