Poetry Friday - Making Something
Poetry Friday is hosted by Heidi Mordhorst here at My Juicy Little Universe! She's taking us back a few years to another school start which I'm guessing many of us remember and with sadness. Thanks for hosting, Heidi! I hope your pre-K adventures have gone well this starting of the year!
And best wishes to all the rest of you starting, too, online or in school, sending someone to school, managing someone at home! Our stay-at-home summer ends as I wonder what's next?
Heidi has my thanks for her inspirational #magazineticpoetry she shared on twitter. I took her idea and added some sketching, too and have enjoyed it thoroughly, trying hard to find the time to look for words and one #everyday thing while I #makesomething. She says it was my idea but all I did was send a little box of words. Isn't this the most fun piggy-backing!
As for the poem, this really is the cup I reach for every single Sunday. Traditions are nice, even the small ones.
Feels like I could lift that cup right from your notebook page Linda, lovely image you created with your cup and found words. I have a small handful of ceramic mugs I like to drink from, they feel like an extension of me, and I am grateful for them. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteBeing thankful for the little things is something that is needed more these days. As the stressors mount, I want to stop and rethink my gratitude thoughts. Your #makesomething of #everydaythings is refreshing, Linda. Thanks for sharing what makes you grateful.
ReplyDelete'Oh deer', I am grateful for you and your poem of gratitude, Linda. I love that your gift of words for Heidi inspired so much goodness. :)
ReplyDeleteLove your Sunday cup. Yes, traditions...even small ones are precious. I have grabbed onto #makesomething as well. When I'm at my craft table, there is no time, no demands, just me and lots of silly bits of paper and glue and paint. Sometimes, I'm listening to a book...sometimes a podcast or show. It's really wonderful. I crave it.
ReplyDeleteThanks all. I've been busy much of the day with the bookstore, appreciate that you enjoyed my #makesomething poem.
ReplyDeleteLinda, this poem hits me because we have just had a major hurricane that did not destroy us. I am home. I am alive. I am grateful.
ReplyDeleteSo relieved to hear that you are well, Margaret!
DeleteI am so glad you're okay, too, Margaret. I did follow the map & thought you escaped the worst. And I am sorry for all the devastation of others, too.
DeleteI love how tags of words can weave together and take you to a new place. (I've always called it tag poetry. Or recycled poetry, when I embellish it with bits and bobs.🙃) You sure have given a gift that keeps on giving.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Kat, yes, it can be 'tag' poetry, too, this time with a twist.
DeleteAhh...those little rituals that inspire gratitude. I have a weekend tea mug. I will cradle it with gratitude, remembering your poem!
ReplyDeleteI love hearing of your 'weekend tea mug', Mary Lee. Every little thing is precious! Thanks!
DeleteWonderful to follow your #makesomething #everydaythings poems. I picked up a cut piece of branch to show Jack recently and was reminded of the project you did (was it for poetry month?). Everyday things bring enormous pleasure and comfort and you've reminded us to be more aware of them. Thanks, Linda. I have many favorite mugs! I've tried to whittle my collection, but it's hard.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Ramona. Yes, I used little woodcut circles for April. How great to show Jack! Everyday things give me lots of pleasure, too. And I've struggled to hone down the cups. It isn't easy at all. I still have a couple that were my mom's so I remember her using them when I pull one out. Memories! Like you I'm sure!
DeleteThank you for this reminder, Linda. I have much to be grateful for, yet this week has been a challenge. Making something is the best way to find moments of calm and quiet.
ReplyDeleteIt does help take me away from everything else to sit and do this. I'm sorry for your tough week, Catherine & wish you a better one coming up. Thanks!
DeleteHow fun to showcase your mug with found words. I have a mug a lot like it, green, with a reindeer and a pine tree on it from the Adirondacks. Your post reminded me of that trip we took a long time ago. I didn't know about #magazineticpoetry. Thanks for your post.
ReplyDeleteThat is fun that you have a similar mug & it's a souvenir, too! Mine was a gift from a friend. I'm happy you connected to a memory, Janice. And be sure to check out Heidi's #magazineticpoetry. It's wonderful. Thanks!
DeleteI love the heart in your work, Linda. Generous--you, your poems, your life...
ReplyDeleteThank you, Laura. I value your words & you, too! This community helps keep us all going.
DeleteWords and images together make me very happy! Thanks for sharing yours. And now I have to go fill my favorite mug with tea--and I'm grateful that it's finally cool enough to enjoy a cup of hot tea in the evening!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you're sharing about your own favorite mug, Susan. Yes! for cooler evenings! Thanks!
DeleteBe sure to
ReplyDeletebe grateful
I sure am. Piggyback with me anytime, Linda!
Aw, thanks, Heidi. It's always a pleasure!
