I've shared some of these antique Valentines I have from dear my mother-in-law, before. I adore them and found one more to show you. Helen, Miss Helen to her students, was one of those teachers who, after leaving high school, taught in a one-room schoolhouse in the 1920’s. She rose well before sunup, saddled a horse, and left for the country building where her first duty was to start the fire. Imagine those cold winter mornings!
I love these special Valentines, quite different from the ones we see today, and I wanted to share one with all of you, too, as my Valentine's Day wish.

Linda, wow, I can't imagine being a teacher like Miss Helen. What a lot of fuss, and she still did the regular work of being a teacher with all the many different levels of students. That valentine is lovely! Thank you for sharing.

DeleteLinda, your stories of family are always so interesting and inspiring considering the era they were in. I've hear stories about teachers who started the fire in their one-room schoolhouse but yours is so personal as is your valentine postcard. I have many cards for all sorts of holidays and best wishes. I used several in the classroom as postcard prompts. The children had fun reading what was said back at the turn of the 20th century. Your card is a charmer.

ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet card! The words "I love you," are always important anytime, to make life feel like a "jolly lark." What a life Miss Helen must have had, hard in ways we can only imagine, but full of love.
