Though I'm posting this on Leap Day, it's time to "March" on! When I signed up for this date, I thought I would write about spring. Yet, with the continuing turmoil in the world, I thought I'd prefer to write about choices. How are you choosing to change the world, perhaps only in 'your' world? It's hard to see the many needs and wonder if one little person can affect them. I imagine ripples spreading when one stone is thrown. Is it true? Can one stone make a difference? I hope that it can!

Acrostic Moment
Could you take a moment now,
Hasten to own a world of wishes
Overlook the list--laundry, dusting, working late--
Install ‘be kind’ and ‘listen well’?
Could you look beyond and fasten
Everyone’s lives to part of yours?

Thanks for your caring thoughts and "Choice" acrostic. All the chaos in the world does feel overwhelming much of the time, but I agree with your ripples on the water analogy. Each person can make a difference; to be kind and listen well are conscious choices we can, and should make every day. We are all interconnected. As a wise man once said, "Every journey begins with a single step." Thanks for hosting this week, and Happy March!
ReplyDelete"a world of wishes" What a beautiful idea. I have to admit that I struggle to feel like I'm making a difference. I believe I am. I aim to. And, at the same time, the daily grind of difficulty that people around me have can really impact how I'm seeing and feeling about the world. There is so much suffering. I have thought a lot about the idea of joy as resistance and try to tap into that as much as I can. Poetry Friday is a tremendous boost of art and community for me. I am grateful.

ReplyDeleteYour acrostic poem is one of genuine substance, Linda. Your analogy to the casting of a stone into water is also most apt. My dear uncle always urged me to be quietly subversive and I try to honour that ideal every day-stir the pot! Choice means we can be makers or breakers- and I know what my choice is every single time. Thank you this timely reminder.

I believe so in our own communities if we believe in the power of together action. ReplyDelete"fasten everyone's lives to part of yours" is a wonderful line. Something about the word "fasten" gets to me. For the last two weeks my daughter has been on the legislative floor fighting against a bill that will place her boss in the governor's office, essentially giving the governor control over the public defenders in our state. She's a fighter but the bill went through because of the puppetry that is politics. I am sorry she lost the fight but so proud that she is who she is.
