Happy Poetry Month!
It's Poetry Friday, too, and Ruth Bowen Hersey is hosting HERE on her blog, There is no such thing as a God-forsaken Town. This week, she shares a poem about her 'forever' home, Haiti, its struggles continuing, and the fact that she is often there in her dreams. Thanks for hosting, Ruth! 
I'm taking the advice from the poet who has given so much to help us all, including students and teachers, write poetry. I'll be moving from A to Z, obviously needing to combine a few to make it all come out to 30. FYI—Sometimes, Paul Janeczko offers a prompt to write a poem that begins with the specific alphabet letter instead of a poem type. It will be fun to be open to writing in various ways!

Zen
In April, chiming
a tiny rhyme
for listeners
who take the time
to venture near
with ears to hear,
the poetry!

Linda, your NPM project is full of Alphabet surprises. Your small poem with its rhyme sings praise for a single shoot in springtime,, remimdimg me that zen time is the pause needed to smell the flowers and bring poetry from spring's heart to ears that listen.

ReplyDeleteIt's finally spring here too, and I'm so thankful! Alas the forecast has rain for the next 10 days at least, but that's spring in the Pacific Northwest for you. ;-)

DeleteLinda, life derailed my plan to be The Audience for this year's NPM. Turns out it was a good year not to have my own project! But I'll come back for all the rest of your alphabet. Each one so far has been its own little jewel! I have Lilies of the Valley for the first time in my garden -- a gift from a fellow gardener -- and I am loving their sweet little bells. I'll think ZEN now every time I stop to admire them!
ReplyDeleteThough I've enjoyed most of the writing, have also been so busy with the bookstore that I'm ready to be done. Thanks for coming by when you have, Mary Lee. I love that you have your first lilies of the valley & that I wrote of them this final poem for the alphabet! "Zen" it is!
DeleteOh, gosh, the sounds in this are just lovely, Linda! This feels like it could be the intro poem to herald National Poetry Month for teachers or something!
ReplyDeleteOh, Linda, this little poem is so very precious. "chiming / a tiny rhyme" is perfect. I like the -ime rhymes at the beginning and -ear words closing it out. I agree with Laura, I can see this as an invitation to NPM. I'd vote for it for next year's NPM poster!
